Primary duties are to keep abreast of all projects in assigned district to respond to the public and media. Plan events such as ribbon cuttings and groundbreakings for projects. Assist Director with press releases, press events, talking points and other correspondence, as well as administrative duties for Community Relations that may include scheduling, answering phone, responding to email. Additionally, assist deputy director with working outreach events that occur on weekends and/or evenings, as well as any other administrative duties as assigned for the good of the department.

- Gathers, organizes, and formats information related to an agency's goals, objectives and services.

- Coordinates and conducts public meetings, media events or educational programs.
- Ensures a mutual sharing of information with other agencies, media and the general public.
- May supervise staff.
JOB REQUIREMENTS for Community Relations Officer
Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:
- Six months experience in public relations or media relations to establish and promote a positive image and inform or influence specific audiences through the use of internal and external communications such as public forums, print or electronic media, speech writing, writing/editing, marketing, advertising, or special events.
- Six months experience in gathering, organizing, formatting, translating, or interpreting information into forms more easily understood by the media or public, and disseminating the information through the use of print, broadcast or electronic media.
- Six months experience in public speaking which includes gathering, preparing and presenting information to the public or media groups.
- Six months experience in developing, planning and directing public events, campaigns, programs, or services to meet community needs.
- Knowledge of developing policies, procedures or programs for dissemination of information to the public or media groups.
