Summary Statement

An employee in this class coordinates statewide fleet equipment programs and provides technical support for fleet management systems, vehicle upfitting, telematics, equipment inventory, vendor performance, and lifecycle administration. The employee coordinates fleet equipment activities, develops vehicle equipment specifications, monitors maintenance and upfitting programs, and provides direction and oversight to Fleet Services staff assigned throughout the state.

Nature and Scope

An employee in this class is responsible for coordinating statewide fleet equipment programs supporting fleet operations.  Work includes ensuring vehicle equipment specifications, upfitting projects, telematics systems and related fleet technologies, equipment inventories, vendor services, and fleet management data are properly tracked, standardized, and aligned with operational requirements.

The employee serves as a technical and program resource for fleet equipment standards, vehicle technologies, lifecycle management, and telematics systems. Work includes regularly communicating and coordinating with Fleet Services employees, vendors, contractors, manufacturers, and agency personnel to support and ensure the successful procurement, installation, maintenance, and performance of the state’s fleet equipment.  Work requires that an employee in this class remains current on evolving vehicle systems, fleet management technologies, telematics platforms, and related industry practices. Work in this class is distinguished from the Fleet Services Transportation Coordinator class series by its emphasis on coordinating and overseeing statewide fleet equipment programs and providing technical support work, rather than coordinating and performing hands-on vehicle maintenance, repair, or field service activities.

An employee receives minimal supervision from an administrative or technical supervisor; the supervisor defines objectives, priorities, and deadlines and assists the employee with unusual situations.
