Description of Occupational Work

Fleet Services Transportation Coordinators support statewide fleet operations, maintenance, and administration by ensuring that vehicles and equipment are safe, reliable, compliant, and available for use. Primary responsibilities include coordinating and monitoring vehicle assignments, maintenance, repairs, inspections, transportation, roadside assistance, and vehicle disposition activities.

Work in this class series requires knowledge of fleet operations, data management practices, and customer service principles. In addition, employees must remain current on evolving vehicle systems, fleet management technologies, telematics platforms, diagnostic tools, and related industry practices. Employees regularly communicate with customers, agency representatives, contractors, and vendors to support fleet operations, coordinate maintenance and repairs, resolve issues, ensure compliance with applicable policies, procedures, and standards, and provide customer service and technical assistance.

Note: Advancement of employees through the career ladder is dependent on an agency’s/ department's operational needs and distribution of work.  The career ladder incorporates Fleet Services Transportation Coordinator I, and II; therefore, all positions allocated into the Fleet Services Transportation Coordinator career ladder are classified at the II level (highest in the career ladder). The I level is to provide entry for hiring new employees into the class series but does not preclude hiring new employees at higher levels. To implement the career ladder, current employees are assigned to the level for which they meet job requirements and promotional standards.  Employees may be promoted through the career ladder in accordance with promotional standards for those levels assigned to an agency.  The promotional standards, a selection document under separate cover, set forth the criteria that identify, measure, and verify successful performance at each level.

The Fleet Services Transportation Supervisor, although not part of the career ladder, provides competitive opportunities for movement of employees.
