A class incumbent is responsible for protecting State property from trespass, theft, and other hazardous conditions.
Nature and Scope
The class incumbents enforce institutional rules, regulations, and policies relative to safety, security, and orderliness. Incumbents patrol institutional grounds by foot or in a patrol vehicle on a regular basis as outlined by institutional regulations. Normally, Security Officers work from a central facility such as a guard house/security office. A significant aspect of the work involves the possibility of dealing with crisis or emergency situations. Incumbents may also be required to subdue personnel and/or patients behaving outside of normally acceptable patterns.
Essential functions are fundamental, core functions common to all positions in the class series and are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all job duties for any one position in the class.
