Summary StatementA class incumbent is responsible for ensuring that all persons sentenced to a State correctional facility are classified and determinations are implemented.
Nature and ScopeClass incumbents work under the general supervision of a technical superior. Work includes leading classification team discussions to assure that relevant factors are taken into consideration and that the team renders a justifiable recommendation. A class incumbent also participates in the transfer of inmates, in and out of State. An incumbent in this class makes recommendations and provides advisory inmate classification services that enables the department staff to ensure individualized treatment and custody of offenders. The ability to understand and help resolve problems caused by the differing viewpoints of custody and treatment personnel is a significant aspect of the work.
