At CTECS we are currently recruiting an Education Assistant to join our leadership team at A.I. Prince Technical High School in Hartford, CT.

AS AN EDUCATION ASSISTANT YOU WILL: 
Play a vital role in the day-to-day operations of the school. Along with other duties as needed, this includes but is not limited to:
  • Supervising large groups of students in the lunchroom
  • Monitoring and/or supervising different areas of the school building as assigned
  • Assisting students that have been sent to the in school suspension (ISS) room, 
  • Responsibility for the safety and personal conduct of students
    THE ROLE:
    • Located at A.I. Prince Tech
    • Part-time, first shift
    • Monday - Friday, 7:30 am - 2:30 pm
    • Please note this is a permanent 10-month position, starting at the beginning of each school year in August, and ending at the end of each school year in June

    PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)

    In a state agency, this class is accountable for providing services of a non-instructional nature in the implementation of special educational programs.

    EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

    Assists in implementing an Individualized Education Program designed by education professionals in areas such as self help, feeding, toileting, language, gross and fine motor development; assists in parental involvement activities; assist students in participating in general school activities and is responsible for safety and personal conduct of students; participates in serving and feeding of meals; participates in maintenance of students good personal hygiene; supervises students in groups or individually when teacher is temporarily absent from classroom during school day (e.g. lunch, rest break, meetings); supervises transportation of students to and from school; monitors and/or supervises different areas of school buildings and grounds as assigned; collects data, attends meetings and prepares reports; prepares classroom materials and assists teacher in general maintenance of classroom and adaptive equipment; supervises students during field trips and assists teacher in routine, school related duties (e.g. taking attendance, ordering supplies, reporting lunch count); performs clerical duties; may serve as translator; may be required to transport students; may be required to lift students and respond to incidents concerning students; performs related duties as required.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY

    Oral and written communication skills; some interpersonal skills; ability to maintain records and charts; ability to follow oral and written instructions; ability to prepare reports.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    A high school diploma or General Educational Development test (GED Certification) and any experience or training which would be expected to provide the knowledge, skill and abilities outlined above.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    • Experience assisting student participation in general school activities, accounting for their safety and personal conduct
    • Experience supervising students when a Teacher is temporarily absent from the classroom during school day
    • Experience monitoring different areas of school buildings and grounds as assigned
    • Experience preparing classroom materials and assisting Teachers with general maintenance of classroom and adaptive equipment

    SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

    1. Incumbents in this class may be required to possess and retain a current Connecticut Motor Vehicle operator license.
    2. Incumbents in this class may be required to speak a foreign language.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

    Incumbents in this class may be required to pass a physical examination.

    WORKING CONDITIONS

    Incumbents in this class may be required to lift light to medium weights and be exposed to some risk of injury from assaultive or abusive students.
