The State of Connecticut, Department of Developmental Services (DDS) – is accepting applications for one (1) Nurse Clinical Instructor position in the DDS Central Office, in the Education Support/Staff Development Division in Willimantic, CT.  Please note: this posting will also be used to fill future vacancies in Hartford, New Haven and Southbury.

In your role as a Nurse Clinical Instructor, you will have the opportunity to:

  • In collaboration with interdisciplinary staff members, participate in assessment of education needs and requirements of staff and individuals by determining areas of deficiencies and considering government regulations;
  • Participate in development of curricular;
  • Conduct research to obtain most recent information about identified topic;
  • Deliver curricula to targeted groups including instruction in theory and provision of clinical experience;
  • Evaluate effectiveness of curricula through analyses of class participation, feedback and written tests;
  • Participate in workshops designed for career advancement of nursing staff;
  • Instruct staff of all levels in orientation and other programs;
  • Supervise learning experiences of staff in programs;
  • Act as a role model to nursing and health care staff by demonstrating and teaching professional behaviors;
  • Participate in approved continuing education programs to enhance professional competence and share this information with other staff members;
  • Prepare and submit reports as required;
  • Maintain records of those individuals participating in educational programs;
  • Protect human and civil rights of individuals and staff;
  • May participate on committees and in recruitment process;
  • Perform related duties as required;

FOR THOSE WHO HOLD AN RN LICENSE IN A STATE OTHER THAN CONNECTICUT AND WISH TO APPLY FOR A CONNECTICUT LICENSE, PLEASE:

1.     Review the eligibility and documentation requirements for CT license by endorsement of an out-of-state license;

2.     Complete a CT DPH online application (expand the ‘Public Health Practitioners’ grouping, select ‘Registered Nurse’ and then ‘Start’;

3.     Request verification of out-of-state license(s) electronically through the National Council of State Boards of Nursing’s Nursys® System. To send verification of your license(s) to CT, read and agree to the terms, enter your biographic information, select your license type and select ‘SEARCH’.  Review the results and select the ‘Next’ button.  Check the box next to ‘Connecticut’ and complete the transaction.  Once the transaction is completed, you will receive a confirmation email from Nursys and the verification will be available to the DPH.  Note that PA and MI verifications are not provided through Nursys.  Please contact those state boards for information on obtaining verification.

PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)

In a state health care facility or institution this class is accountable for developing curricula and teaching the principles and practices of nursing and health related subjects to nursing personnel and interdisciplinary staff.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE

Three (3) years of experience in hospital or institutional nursing as a registered professional nurse.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SUBSTITUTIONS ALLOWED

  • A Bachelor's degree in nursing may be substituted for one (1) year of the General Experience.
  • A Master's degree in nursing may be substituted for one (1) additional year of the General Experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • DDS Endorsed Nurse Instructor credentials
  • Experience with both classroom and virtual teaching
  • Experience with e-license in Medical Administration
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook and Teams)

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Incumbents in this class must possess and retain a license as a registered professional nurse in Connecticut.
  • Incumbents in this class may be required to travel.
