The State of Connecticut Department of Economic and Community Development (DECD), is currently accepting applications from qualified individuals for the position of Website & Creative Content Tourism Coordinator (Tourism Program Associate)The Website & Creative Content Tourism Coordinator promotes the State of Connecticut as an overnight destination using CT VISIT’s website as a key platform to position the State as a vibrant, diverse, innovative, and attractive tourism destination.

THE ROLE:
The Tourism Program Associate (Website & Creative Content Tourism Coordinator) role reports directly to the Director of Tourism as well as collaborates with the various tourism divisions and tourism advertising agencies. The role will involve working on various tourism programs, content promotions and management, digital marketing projects, SEO, in house creative projects and presentations as needed, and other key tourism tasks. The role will engage in video content, maintaining destination B-roll, digital content, maintaining databases, updating the CT Visit website, have full knowledge and comprehension of the back end of the website, as well as programs such as Drupal, Simpleview, Tempest, and CRM, and will coordinate promotional materials; collaborating with advertising agencies on trade show booths, promotional giveaway items, signage, banners, and any other creative/printing needs. Additional responsibilities include:
  • Assisting in the creation of an annual division workplan, including budget submission and accountability for the annual program of work pertaining to the Website & Creative Content tourism division
  • Reviewing, updating, and uploading in an ongoing manner, site content, industry partner submissions, events, and happenings, property listings, contacts, and any other related functions
  • Maintaining and uploading CT deals, dedicated promotion programs
  • Posting the Director’s “what’s happening” monthly tourism office newsletter to industry partners and stakeholders, working collaboratively with the advertising agency based on approval
  • Consumer newsletters based on approval
  • Assisting industry partners on listing updates when needed
  • Coordinating CT open house collaborating with partners on the overall program in relation to the event
  • Liaison with DEEP for the Green Lodging Certification program
  • Liaison with DOT for the highway tourism signage program
  • Performs related duties as required

PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)

In the Department of Economic and Community Development this class is accountable for independently performing a full range of tasks in the promotion and marketing of Connecticut as a tourism destination.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Performs related duties within a program area or area(s); develops and promotes Connecticut as a destination for encouragement of artistic, cultural and tourism activities; develops, implements, coordinates and evaluates tourism programs, services, projects and/or publications; coordinates a marketing or promotion program; forms cooperative partnerships within tourism industry; acts as liaison between customers, constituents, local organizations, contractors and government agencies; develops advertising and marketing tools for promoting tourism industry; obtains marketing measures and tracks performance; prepares, edits and proofs information related to program/project area and updates agency website; drafts various publications promoting tourism to and within Connecticut; participates in agency strategic planning; assesses, develops and/or promotes domestic and international markets for Connecticut products; provides special events assistance; performs research for specific program area; maintains data and tracks information relating to program area(s); prepares reports; performs related duties as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY

Knowledge of methods used in development, implementation, promotion and evaluation of tourism or marketing programs and services; knowledge of tourism program resources; knowledge of industry practices, markets and location issues; knowledge of research methods and techniques; some knowledge of planning principles and practices; considerable oral and written communication skills; interpersonal skills; ability to coordinate programs; ability to evaluate and report on programs in progress; ability to utilize computer software.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE

Six (6) years of experience in tourism, marketing, public relations, business management or a closely related field.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SPECIAL EXPERIENCE

Two (2) years of the General Experience must have been in tourism or marketing.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SUBSTITUTIONS ALLOWED

1. College training in business management, marketing, public relations, communications or a closely related field may be substituted for the General Experience on the basis of fifteen (15) semester hours equalling one-half (1/2) year of experience to a maximum of four (4) years for a Bachelor's degree.
2. A Master's Degree in a closely related field may be substituted for one (1) additional year of the General Experience.
3. Two (2) years of experience as a Tourism Program Assistant may be substituted for the General Experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience communicating through verbal and written correspondence with internal and external stakeholders
  • Experience complying with state and federal laws, statutes, and regulations
  • Experience working with stakeholders, such as non-profits, cities, municipalities, and other state agencies.
  • Experience multitasking (two or more assignments) and prioritizing assignments according to deadlines.
  • Experience with website programs such as Drupal, Simpleview, Tempest, and Customer Relationship Management (CRM)

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

1. Incumbents in this class may be required to travel.
2. Incumbents in this class may be required to possess and retain a valid Motor Vehicle Operator’s license.
