The State of Connecticut, Bureau of Information Technology Solutions (BITS) within the Department of Administrative Services (DAS), is now accepting applications for Quality Assurance Tester Trainee (40 Hour) from qualified individuals, who will be eligible for promotion to Information Technology (IT) Analyst 1 upon successful completion of the one (1) year training program. This position will primarily be in service of the Department of Social Services (DSS), but may test software from other agencies within the Health and Human Services area of the business.

DISCOVER THE OPPORTUNITY TO RECEIVE ON THE JOB TRAINING TO

  • Perform hands-on manual testing of major and minor software application releases with the supervision of an IT Supervisor
  • Participate in the design phase of the software development life cycle providing supplemental input on application changes and modernization efforts
  • Configure and run automation test cases during the regression test cycle of the application release using Selenium and Qualitia
  • Review software release notes, business requirements and design documents
  • Write T-SQL and PL-SQL queries for performing test data identification, data change request (DCR) testing and application functionality validations
  • Create test cases in Java with traceability to business requirements
  • Perform SOAP, REST API and web services using SOAPUI
  • Generate XML file for validating integration with third party notice generation
  • Configure date and batch parameters for running batches
  • Use Jira for recording incidents and test results, monitor Jira dashboards for release work intake
  • Provide level of estimate for test case execution
  • Determine validity of workflow outcomes of incidents into defects, change requests or return to testing
  • Perform stub testing as part of social security interface, asset verification, and over 80 interfaces as part of the eligibility system quality assurance functions
  • Debug and provide correction paths for application errors

As part of these efforts, the Department of Administrative Services Bureau of Enterprise Systems and Technology (DAS BEST) is joining forces with the majority of Executive Branch, Agency IT organizations, to form a new, centralized team under the Bureau of Information Technology Solutions (BITS).

PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)

In a state agency information systems environment this class is accountable for receiving on the job training in performing technical work involving help desk functions, user support and assisting in application development.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Receives on the job training to perform tasks as outlined in the specification for the class of Information Technology Analyst 1; performs related duties as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY

Knowledge of functioning and use of information systems; knowledge of major concepts and terms used in the information technology profession; interpersonal skills; logic and analytical skills; ability to prepare and maintain accurate records; ability to prepare written materials and reports; ability to follow oral and written instructions.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE

A Bachelor’s Degree in management information systems, computer science or information technology related area.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience writing queries for databases
  • Experience working in a software development lifecycle
  • Experience working in or working with a technical team
  • Experience testing software
  • Experience working with social services
