THE ROLE: We are currently accepting applications for multiple Clinical Social Worker (CSW) positions. We are seeking dedicated and compassionate individuals to join our team to improve the well-being for our clients/patients. These positions will be filled in all locations, full-time, part-time, first, second, and third shifts, throughout the state.  Some positions may also be hazardous duty. 

IN THIS ROLE YOU WILL: Work as a member of a multidisciplinary, clinical team; develop psychosocial assessments through clinical interviews with assigned clients and families; develop treatment plans and provide clinical treatment services in the form of individual, group and/or family therapy; conduct evidence-based treatment groups to individuals with serious and persistent mental illness; advocate and develop networks of social and clinical services to assist clients in meeting identified needs; establish appropriate community reintegration plan for those individuals moving to a less restrictive setting; and document treatment in clinical records. *CSWs at WFH, participate in multidiscipline treatment planning and conduct evidence-based for this population, and provide testimony in Probate Hearings.

These positions are in the following facilities and can be assigned any unit/location and work schedule/shift: 
  • Capitol Region Mental Health Center (CRMHC), Hartford - CRMHC is a community based mental health center serving Hartford, West Hartford, Farmington, Avon, Canton and Simsbury providing individuals with behavioral health services.  CRMHC collaborates with the greater Hartford DMHAS-Funded mental health programs comprising 15 non-profit agencies located in Hartford and West Hartford.  These agencies work together to provide a comprehensive array of behavioral health services to adults with serious psychiatric disabilities as well as co-occurring psychiatric illness and substance use. 
  • Connecticut Mental Health Center (CMHC), New Haven - CMHC is an urban community mental health center with an exceptional 50-year tradition of serving individuals with serious mental illness and/or addiction.  Founded in 1966, CMHC is a partnership between DHMAS and the Yale Department of Psychiatry. CMHC is nationally recognized for its scientific research into the causes and treatment of mental illness and addiction.  The Abraham Ribicoff Research Facilities include multiple research programs in a variety of areas.  CMHC is also a major training site for individuals pursuing careers in mental health fields including psychiatry, psychology, social work, nursing and pastoral care. 
  • Connecticut Valley Hospital (CVH), Middletown and Hartford -  CVH opened in 1868 as the State’s public hospital for the treatment of persons with mental illness. Today, CVH is the largest of DMHAS facilities, and includes 17 inpatient units over two campuses (Middletown and Hartford). The hospital includes both a general psychiatry and addiction services units. CVH provides comprehensive inpatient and outpatient psychiatric care and substance abuse treatment, including treatment for pregnant women and persons with dual diagnoses. Specialty areas include geriatric and special services, an integrated network of comprehensive mental health services for older adults and young adult services.  The facility also runs the Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) program which addresses the needs of TBI survivors, including; reintegration into community living, independent living skills development, vocational and educational training, psychiatric, cognitive and neurological assessment and treatment, speech and physical rehabilitation as well as individual and family counseling.  
  • River Valley Services (RVS), Middletown - RVS is a community mental health that serves the towns of Chester, Clinton, Cromwell, Deep River, Durham, East Haddam, East Hampton, Essex, Haddam, Ivoryton, Killingworth, Lyme, Middlefield, Middletown, Old Lyme, Old Saybrook, Portland and Westbrook. RVS’s goal is to provide the highest quality crisis intervention, case management, and residential and clinical services to adult citizens who suffer from serious mental disorders and who lack the financial means to secure such services in the private sector. RVS offers short term respite residential services, community support programs, a mobile crisis response team, jail diversion programs and various other supportive services. 
  • Southeastern Mental Health Authority (SMHA), Norwich - SMHA is a community mental health agency serving adults in Bozrah, Colchester, East Lyme, Franklin, Griswold, Groton, Ledyard, Lisbon, Montville, New London, North Stonington, Norwich, Preston, Salem, Sprague, Stonington, Voluntown, and Waterford providing high quality behavioral health services to those with mental health and substance use disorders. Services offered include case management, outpatient behavioral health, crisis intervention, respite care, and forensic services. SMHA is responsible for administering all DMHAS contract funded behavioral health services in Southeastern Connecticut. 
  • Southwest Connecticut Mental Health System (SWCMHS), Bridgeport - SWCMHS is responsible for the oversight and management of contracts with private not-for-profit agencies and residential providers providing mental health services in the southwest region of the state. With locations in Bridgeport and Stamford, SWCMHS provides inpatient, outpatient and assertive community treatment (ACT) services and community support services for adults with severe behavioral health disabilities; mental health services for people who are deaf or hearing impaired and a mobile crisis intervention team. SWCMHS also provides outreach to people who are homeless and mentally ill. Special agency programs include Shelter Plus Care, a housing program for people who are homeless and who have a history of substance abuse or mental illness or who have AIDS. 
  • Western Connecticut Mental Health Network (WCMHN), Danbury, Torrington, Waterbury - WCMHN coordinates three local mental health authorities in Danbury, Waterbury and Torrington. WCMHN provides peer support programs, recovery services, supported employment, homeless services, residential, crisis response, jail diversion, outpatient, case management, Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) teams and young adult services. Collectively, WCMHN programs serve roughly 7,000 people annually. 
  • *Whiting Forensic Hospital, Dutcher Services (WFH), Middletown - WFH specializes in providing inpatient services to individuals involved in the criminal justice system or are not yet ready to be safely treated in less restrictive settings. Services are provided to individuals who are admitted via Psychiatric Security Review Board (PSRB) commitment, criminal court order for restoration of competency to stand trial, civil commitment or transfer from the Department of Correction.  Discharge options are dependent on legal status and the purpose of admission. The hospital consists of 91 maximum security beds and 138 enhanced security beds.  Employees of WFH are defined as hazardous duty.
*WFH cares for patients under the jurisdiction of the Psychiatric Security Review Board (PSRB), patients committed by the superior court for competency restoration and civil patients in need of maximum security psychiatric treatment.

Part-time hourly: $39.33 - $53.14/hour
35 hours weekly: $71,842 - $97,084/year
37.5 hours weekly: $76,972 - $104,016/year
40 hours weekly: $82,104 - $110,953/year

PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)

In a state agency behavioral health program, as part of a multi-disciplinary team at one or more locations this class is accountable for independently providing clinical social work services.

OFFICE OF HEALTHCARE ADVOCATE, this class is accountable for serving as a case manager and advocate for clients that have received or need to receive behavioral health care services.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

As a member of multi-disciplinary clinical team or within a network of community based behavioral health services develops psychosocial assessments through clinical interviews with assigned clients and families which include consideration of developmental, social and/or cultural, substance abuse, psychological, environmental and medical issues; develops treatment plans including measurable treatment objectives; provides clinical treatment services in form of triage, crisis intervention, individual, group and/or family therapy, screening and planning; advocates and develops networks of social and clinical services to assist clients in meeting identified needs; monitors and evaluates effectiveness of treatment plans, documents treatment in clinical records; completes reports in accordance with agency and accrediting bodies; provides clinical supervision to Licensed Master Social Workers; consults and collaborates with other behavioral health providers to improve delivery of services to clients; provides forensic evaluations and court testimony as required; maintains social work treatment and standards as required; may participate in research projects; performs related duties as required.

OFFICE OF HEALTHCARE ADVOCATE: Manages a caseload of consumer behavioral healthcare insurance complaints concerning coverage and/or payment; reviews and assesses medical records including psychological assessment and treatment plans, concerning but not limited to mental, emotional, behavioral and addictive disorders to determine appropriate treatment plans and eligibility for insurance benefit payment; participates in insurance appeal hearings and serves as clinical expert to defend and demonstrate that the diagnostic assessment and treatment plans are appropriate and required to address client behavioral healthcare needs.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY

Knowledge of social work methodology, casework, group work and community mobilization; knowledge of family and interpersonal relationship dynamics; knowledge of values, sanctions, purposes and ethics of professional social work; knowledge of social, cultural, economic, medical, psychological and legal issues which influence attitudes and behaviors of clients and families; knowledge of mental illnesses and approaches to treatment; considerable interpersonal skills; considerable oral and written communication skills; ability to devise and implement a treatment plan with measurable goals that address client needs; ability to independently apply current psychiatric treatment modalities to address client needs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Licensure as a clinical social worker in the State of Connecticut.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  1. Incumbents in this class must possess and retain a license to practice clinical social work pursuant to Sec. 20-195 (m) through (r) of the Connecticut General Statutes.
  2. Incumbents in this class must possess and maintain eligibility for participation in federal health care programs as defined in 42 U.S. § 1320a-7b(f).
  3. Incumbents in this class may be required to have knowledge of sign language and communication ability with the deaf and hearing impaired in certain designated positions.
  4. Incumbents in this class may be required to have ability in Spanish oral and written communication in certain designated positions.
  5. Incumbents in this class may be required to travel.
