The State of Connecticut, Department of Developmental Services (DDS) - Central Office has one (1) current full-time job opportunity for a Developmental Services Director of Service Development and Support (Assistive Technology Director).  This position is based out of the Central Office in Hartford, CT.  

This full-time, 40 hour per week position works a Monday through Friday schedule. Although first shift hours are assigned, candidate must be flexible to meet the needs of the agency. Statewide travel may be expected.

PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)

In the Department of Developmental Services, this class is accountable for directing and managing program and service development efforts of the department.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Provides direction and management of a major unit intended to advance agency mission; coordinates, plans and manages activities; formulates program goals and objectives; develops or assists in the development of related policy; interprets and administers applicable statute and regulations; evaluates staff; ensures development of resources necessary to conduct training programs and provide technical assistance in implementing services; manages accounting and funding for major unit; works closely with regional and training school directors and assistant directors in service development, planning and implementation; develops budget components related to staff and service development activities, projecting costs of implementing programs; monitors and evaluates departmental implementation of programs and services to determine need for additional resources, training or support; maintains contacts with individuals both within and outside of the agency who might impact program activities; performs related duties as assigned. KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY

Considerable knowledge of and ability to apply management principles and techniques; considerable knowledge of relevant state and federal laws, statutes and regulations; considerable knowledge of training and development principles, methods and techniques; considerable interpersonal skills; considerable oral and written communication skills; considerable organizational and administrative ability; considerable ability to develop action plans to implement executive program priorities; considerable ability to plan, organize, direct and effectively coordinate and evaluate all program and staff development activities of department; considerable ability to direct and manage process of determining staff development goals and objectives based on department new program initiatives; knowledge of current trends and practices regarding provision of integrated, supportive community based services to individuals with intellectual disabilities; knowledge of state, private and community human service programs particularly those which provide services to individuals with intellectual disabilities or services needed by individuals with intellectual disabilities to function in the community.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE

Eight (8) years of experience in the provision of human service or education programs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SPECIAL EXPERIENCE

Two (2) years of the above experience must have been in a supervisory or managerial capacity with primary responsibility for planning, developing or coordinating services or programs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SUBSTITUTIONS ALLOWED

  1. College training may be substituted for the General Experience on the basis of fifteen (15) semester hours equalling one-half (1/2) year of experience to a maximum of four (4) years for a Bachelor's degree.
  2. A Master's degree in public administration or a behavioral science such as psychology, rehabilitation therapy or social work may be substituted for one (1) additional year of the General Experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree in Assistive Technology from a certified Program.  
  • Assistive Technology Professional (ATP) Certificate or ATACP certification.  
  • Experience with Assistive and/or Remote support Technology.  
  • Experience working with individuals with intellectual disability.
  • IT/AT work experience in researching, supporting and troubleshooting desktop software and hardware products, mobile technology devices.  
  • Experience in educating stakeholders on AT options.    
  • Experience working independently to develop and implement initiatives.  
  • Experience in working across diverse cultural backgrounds.  
  • Experience effectively communicating complex technical matters both verbally and in writing.  
  • Experience working under time constraints and to multi-task/prioritize.  
  • Experience utilizing technical, project management, organizational and time management skills.  
  • Experience promoting collaborative decision-making to identify optimal AT to meet the needs of the individual.
