The State of Connecticut, Department of Revenue Services (DRS) is recruiting for seven (7) Connecticut Career Trainee (CCT) vacancies to join us in two units within the agency, the Operations Support Unit and the Compliance Support Unit. These positions will be located in Hartford, CT. 

At the conclusion of the successfully completed training program, the incumbents will be promoted to the target class of Tax Corrections Examiner 1

Position Highlights: 

The Connecticut Careers Trainee is a training program targeted to college graduates or those with a desire for a career change to provide a one year training program to develop the vital tools to work in the professional field of Tax Corrections Examiner 1. 

You will receive training in introductory governmental work for development of skills and knowledge in the field of public administration in order to qualify for advancement into agency professional positions. You will perform a variety of increasingly difficult duties as skills are acquired during the course of the training period. 

These positions are located within the Operations Support Unit and the Compliance Support Unit. 
  • The Operations Support Unit's mission is to provide assistance to all of the Operations Tax Teams; 
  • The Compliance Support Unit's mission is the administration and verification of the state's earned income tax credit.

These vacancies are full-time, Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM with a hybrid arrangement for some on-site work and some telework.

PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)

In a state agency this class is accountable for mastering the skills necessary to satisfactorily complete the training program for a professional position.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

The Operations Support Unit is responsible for functionality based duties concentrating on taxpayer demographics, financials and correction of taxpayer accounts.  They generalize in all tax types administered by DRS and perform a limited range of tasks.  The mission of the Operations Support Unit is to provide assistance to all of the Operations Tax Teams.  The unit provides account related service in a timely manner by:  reviewing and correcting tax returns; maintaining and adjusting account financial and demographic data; generating bills and issuing refunds, responding to taxpayer inquires via phone, fax, email and written correspondence.

In The Compliance Support Unit, positions are accountable for a wide variety of duties, including but not limited to, the administration and verification of the states earned income tax credit. 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY

Oral and written communication skills; ability to acquire knowledge and skills required for the target classification; ability to understand, evaluate and solve problems by exercising judgement and logic; ability to read, interpret and understand written material; ability to perform basic arithmetical computations; ability to interpret charts, graphs and tables; learning and reasoning ability; ability to establish and maintain cooperative relations with superiors, associates and general public; ability to utilize computer software.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Possession of a Bachelor's or Master's degree.

NOTE:

  1. If the target job classification has a Substitution Allowed that requires the Bachelor's or Master's degree to be in a specific area(s), then these specific degree areas are required for appointment to the Connecticut Career Trainee classification.
  2. Candidates cannot be appointed until all degree requirements are complete.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The preferred candidate will possess:
  • A bachelors degree in a business related field; 
  • Experience in customer service; 
  • Experience in analysis and math computations; 
  • Experience communicating with diverse groups through oral and written communication; 
  • Experience using new technology and different financial software systems, including the Microsoft Office Suite; 
  • Experience working remotely.
