The DMHAS, Connecticut Valley Hospital (CVH), seeks a qualified individual for the position of Nurse (HIV Nurse Educator) to work in our Addiction Services Division (ASD). This position is assigned to the Screening/Admissions Office, located at 1000 Silver Street in Middletown. It will also provide services to the Blue Hills campus located at 500 Vine Street in Hartford. This position is full-time, 35 hours weekly. The work schedule is 1st shift, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with a rotation of 72-72-72, every other weekend and holidays. The position number is 112129.
ASD stabilizes, assists clients in developing coping skills, and helps clients move into the recovery zone. Our mission is to provide services to individuals requiring an inpatient level of care as a consequence of their dependence on alcohol or other drugs; safely restore people with acute alcohol or other drug dependence to an appropriate level of physical and mental health in a caring, therapeutic environment; provide clients with an optimal range and intensity of rehabilitative services that will empower them to successfully cope with the next phase of their recovery efforts; and assist clients in making connections with a community resource network that will support their recovery, medical and psychiatric needs following discharge.
In addition to providing a full range of professional nursing care, you will also serve as the HIV Nurse Educator for ASD in duties such as:
- Oversee HIV counseling services within ASD including Blue Hills;
- Participate in continuous quality improvement;
- Provide education and training to staff and patients/clients on HIV related issues;
- Apply new knowledge from in-service training or other learning sources;
- Utilize therapeutic skills to effectively implement patient/client care according to the Nursing Care Plan;
- Demonstrate collaboration with nursing and interdisciplinary staff; and
- Serve as a liaison with community organizations regarding continuity of care.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE
Graduation from an accredited nursing program.
1. Incumbents in this class must possess and retain a license or temporary permit as a Registered Professional Nurse in Connecticut.
2. Incumbents in this class may be required to be fluent in a foreign language or proficient in the use of the American Sign Language in certain designated positions.
