The State of Connecticut, Department of Public Health (DPH) is hiring! We are seeking qualified individuals to fill three (3) Environmental Analyst 1 positions in the DPH’s Drinking Water Section (DWS) within the Environmental Health and Drinking Water (EHDW) Branch. The DWS provides technical assistance, education, and regulatory enforcement to approximately 2,400 public drinking water systems in Connecticut that utilize 150 reservoirs and 4,000 groundwater sources to provide public drinking water to approximately 2.9 million people on a daily basis. The DWS is entrusted to protect and promote healthy people in healthy Connecticut communities by assuring the use and distribution of high-quality public drinking water for human consumption.
The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL) provides funding for infrastructure improvements for public water systems in Connecticut including drinking water lead service line removal and treatment of emerging contaminants. These Environmental Analyst 1 positions will work within the DWS’ Source Assessment and Protection Unit and is critical to the successful implementation of these infrastructure improvement projects. The Source Assessment and Protection Unit is responsible for statewide water supply planning, water company land permitting, water resource planning, determining well site suitability, and conducting source protection investigations.
Under the direct supervision of a Supervising Environmental Analyst, these positions will be responsible for duties that will include, but are not limited to, the following:

These positions are a permanent, full-time, 35 hours per week positions based out of Hartford, CT. A flex schedule may be permitted following the successful completion of a working test period, including opportunities for an alternate work schedule. This position will have an opportunity to telework a portion of each week in accordance with State policies. These positions have the potential to increase to 40 hours and the salary will be commensurate with the increase in hours.

1. College training in a scientific or technical discipline related to the environmental field including but not limited to biological, earth, or physical sciences; environmental planning; environmental law; economics; leisure services; geographic information systems; geography with a concentration in geographic information systems; natural sciences; natural resources may be substituted for the General Experience on the basis of fifteen (15) semester hours equalling one-half (1/2) year of experience to a maximum of four (4) years for a Bachelor's degree.
2. A Master's degree in a scientific or technical discipline related to the environmental field including but not limited to biological, earth, physical sciences; environmental planning; environmental law; economics; leisure services; geographic information systems; geography with a concentration in geographic information systems; natural sciences; natural resources may be substituted for five (5) years of the General Experience.
Note: Education may only be substituted for a total of five (5) years.
3. For State Employees one (1) year of experience as an Environmental Intern or Environmental Compliance Specialist 2 may be substituted for the General Experience.
