The State of Connecticut, Department of Public Health (DPH) is hiring! We are seeking an individual for an Engineer Intern position. This Engineer Intern position will work in the Environmental Health and Drinking Water Branch's Drinking Water Section. This Engineer Intern will receive training under direction of a supervisor or senior staff person for a period of one year before being promoted to the target class of Sanitary Engineer 1 upon successful completion of the training period.
This Engineer Intern position is in the Small Systems and Schools Program within the Environmental Health and Drinking Water Branch. The selected candidate will be tasked with critical core functions of Connecticut’s drinking water primacy program as it relates to drinking water issues in schools. The DPH has primacy to uphold the Safe Drinking Water Act and oversee various state laws that assure purity and adequacy of the state’s public drinking water systems and sources and the EHDW Branch regulates approximately 2,400 public water systems that provide safe drinking water to over 2.8 million people in the State of Connecticut. Additionally, the EHDW Branch oversees activities related to food protection, private wells, subsurface sewage disposal, lead, radon, asbestos and over 15 environmental licensing and certification categories.

This Engineer Intern position (target class- Sanitary Engineer 1) is a permanent, 35-hour per week, full-time position, based in Hartford. Willingness to travel is preferred. A flex schedule may be permitted following the successful completion of a working test period.

This position will be filled in accordance with contractual language, reemployment, SEBAC, transfer, promotion and merit employment rules.
