The State of Connecticut, Department of Energy & Environmental Protection (DEEP) Bureau of Outdoor Recreation, Boating Division, is currently seeking a seasonal Clean Vessel Act (CVA) Inspector to join our team in Old Lyme, CT.

Position Highlights:

The duty station of this position is DEEP Marine Headquarters located at 333 Ferry Road, Old Lyme, CT. 

Candidates for this position must have a valid driver's license and Certificate of Personal Watercraft or Safe Boating Certificate. In addition, the candidate must be proficient with general word processing software and have experience using Microsoft Access and Excel. 

Familiarity with recreational boating and marina operations and general knowledge of sanitary pumpout facility operations is desired. 

The length of the CVA Inspector position is from April to October, 35 hours per week. The schedule for this position is typically Monday to Friday. 
The pay rate varies from $13.00 to $17.00 per hour depending on education and experience. There are no benefits provided.

PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)

In the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, as a limited duration employee, performs one or more of a variety of tasks and assigned duties of a seasonal nature.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Inspection of all existing and proposed pumpout facilities and pumpout vessels in Connecticut;
Entering inspection and other data into the Clean Vessel Act database;
Assisting the BIG/CVA Program Coordinator with an annual solicitation of grant applications and preparation of the federal grant application;
Assisting with the review of grant applications during the competitive application process;
Reporting conditions at pumpout facilities which are not operating at optimal levels; and
Other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY

Ability to follow instructions.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

1. Incumbents in this class who are assigned as supervisors of small recreational units will perform emergency first aid as needed and will be required to obtain and retain a Basic First Aid Certificate.

2. Incumbents in this class may be required for certain positions to meet any of the following:

a. Proof of possession of a valid Motor Vehicle Operator license.

b. Possession of a valid license to apply pesticides.

c. College training in a specific field.

d. Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification may be required by specific State facilities.

3. Incumbents performing lifeguard services must have and retain an American Red Cross (ARC) Lifeguarding Certification (includes CPR for the Professional Rescuer and Basic First Aid). An EMT or MRT certification may be substituted for the CPR and First Aid requirements.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

1. Incumbents in this class must possess and maintain adequate physical strength and stamina to perform the duties of the class.

2. Incumbents performing lifeguard services must be able to demonstrate American Red Cross (ARC) waterfront lifeguarding swimming skills.
