We are currently seeking an experienced Psychiatrist to join the Southwest Connecticut Mental Health System (SWCMHS)!We seek an experienced and qualified individual for a meaningful role as a Principal Psychiatrist, within the Clinical Services Unit, Outpatient, (PCN: 125913). Clinical Services (CS) with Recovery Pathways (RP) are designed for individuals who have a range of clinical needs but tend to require less intensive case management and community-based skills building. Consumers served by Clinical Services work with a licensed clinician who assists them to develop and implement a person-centered, coordinated recovery plan. These clinicians also provide a full range of individual, group and family therapies.
CS consumers have access to Recovery Pathways (RP) workers. RP staff offer traditional case management, as well as skills training (e.g. money management). RP support tends to be more intermittent and generally ranges from 1-3 hours per month. The function of this level of support is to assist individuals in cultivating greater independence in community living by use of problem solving skills, building towards improved self sufficiency and improving social networks within their own environment. Life skills seminars will be offered to assist individuals toward goals and objectives of independent living in accordance with the consumer’s specific recovery goals and objectives.
This position is located at 1635 Central Avenue in Bridgeport, CT 06610. It is a full-time, 40 hours per week position, with a work schedule of Monday -Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm. Voluntary on-call coverage and weekend coverage is available at additional reimbursement.
In this position you will discover the opportunity to:
Work as part of a multidisciplinary team, which is comprised of psychiatry, nursing, clinicians, rehab, internists, medical specialists and case managers;
Lead all aspects of the treatment team in the care of approximately 10-15 patients and participate in planning, documentation, performance improvement and discharge planning;
Assist with programming choices based on a person centered care and recovery approach;
Participate in coordination of services with community providers, as well as, other therapeutic programs.

PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)
In a state agency this class is accountable for providing clinical administrative/supervisory functions and/or direct care psychiatric services as a board certified advanced clinician.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Provides 24 hour supervision to specified groups of patients and facility coverage as scheduled including on-call coverage and weekend coverage; makes rounds and provides direct care and clinical oversight of multi-disciplinary treatment teams; coordinates work of medical staff with related programs; reviews treatment plans, clinical records, diagnoses, and patient discharge plans for adherence to policies and/or The Joint Commission (TJC) and Health Care Financing Authority (HCFA) standards; provides education and training as indicated, e.g. grand rounds and case conferences; assigns, oversees and evaluates work of staff and on-site night duty physicians and/or psychiatrists; conducts and/or participates in meetings on clinical and administrative policy, research programs, clinical program development and treatment techniques; assesses, examines and evaluates patients for admission or discharge; assesses, examines, diagnoses and prescribes appropriate medications and other biologic and psychosocial treatments for patients with psychiatric illnesses and substance abuse disorders; performs advanced level risk assessments; consults on difficult and/or complex cases; develops and implements QA and/or QI process improvement initiatives; prepares and/or reviews reports, medical records and correspondence; performs utilization review and management functions; attends court hearings as a state witness; performs related duties as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY
Considerable knowledge of methods and principles of behavioral health medicine; considerable knowledge of current principles and methods of assessment and treatment of patients with psychiatric illnesses and substance abuse disorders; considerable knowledge of recent developments in field of psychiatry and substance abuse including treatment models and best practices; considerable interpersonal skills; considerable oral and written communication skills; considerable ability to examine for, diagnose, assess and treat patients with psychiatric illnesses and substance abuse disorders; considerable ability to prescribe and conduct psychotherapy, medications and other treatments specific to psychiatric and substance abuse disorders; ability to develop a collaborative group practice environment with other psychiatrists, physicians and members of interdisciplinary teams; ability to analyze and interpret laboratory reports, x-rays and other medical and/or psychological reports and findings; administrative/supervisory ability.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE
Incumbents in this class must possess and retain certification as a specialist in psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology or board certification in Adult or Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.
Our preferred candidate will have:
Experience treating individuals with severe and persistent mental illness;
Experience with Medication Assisted Treatment of substance use disorders and specifically opiate use disorder.
