Your Role:

We have an exciting opportunity for a new Director of Tourism (Executive Assistant 2) that will be responsible for promoting Connecticut as a world class tourism and travel destination. At this critical moment for Connecticut’s Tourism Industry we seek a leader who brings deep industry expertise, passion, inclusive leadership, and public-private partnership experience that will enable opportunity and growth for Connecticut’s Tourism assets and economy. 

This is an appointed, full-time position serving as part of the Office of Tourism. We are located at 450 Columbus Boulevard in Hartford, CT and easily accessible to all major highways. The anticipated work schedule is 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday. Flexibility is required to work occasional nights and weekends as Commissioner and Agency needs dictate. Telework schedules are available along with a comprehensive benefits package.

The selected candidate will be appointed by the Commissioner of Economic and Community Development in accordance with sections 5-198 (10) of the Connecticut General Statutes, as qualified by Public Act 13-247.

PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)

Acts as an executive assistant to a state elective officer or department head as defined in Section 4-5 of the Connecticut General Statutes and performs such duties as are assigned.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • A minimum of 8 years of experience in Destination Management Organization (DMO) that would include another State Tourism Organization or a Convention Visitors Bureau. 
  • A minimum of 8 years in tourism, marketing, public relations or business management.
  • A minimum of 8 years of experience developing and managing public-private partnerships.
  • A minimum of 8 years of experience directly supervising staff.
  • A minimum of 8 years of experience managing budgets, contracts and compliance management. 
  • Private sector experience as an owner or operator of a venue.
  • Implemented strategies for marketing products of tourism for a location to live, work, and play. 
  • Experience engaging with legislative and stakeholder communities.
  • Experience with quantitative growth in sales, revenue, and/or marketing goals.
