Introduction

Under the leadership of Connecticut’s State Treasurer Shawn T. Wooden, the Office of the Treasurer (OTT) is dedicated to safeguarding the state’s financial resources and taxpayers’ dollars, while maximizing returns, minimizing risks and operating at the highest professional and ethical standards. Through investments and disbursements, the office continues to enhance the state’s fiscal stability, financial literacy, college savings, and its approach to leveraging business partnerships to combat social issues such as gun violence, climate change, and equal opportunity in economic growth. 

We are accepting applications for the position of Corporate Governance Analyst.  This is an unclassified position, and is appointed in accordance with Section 3-13a of the Connecticut General Statutes (CGS).  The position is full-time (40 hours per week), with a Monday - Friday schedule.

The Role

The incumbent in this position will be required to have strong research and database skills, as well as working knowledge of capital markets and investment securities within a public pension plan.  In addition, this individual will require the ability to write high quality reports for public distribution.

Minimum Required

Minimum of seven years full-time work experience performing business-related research and writing on current economic, public policy or business/finance issues for public distribution.

Educational Requirements

Minimum of a Bachelor of Arts or Science in Business, Public Policy or Economics; Master of Business or other post-graduate degree preferred.

The essential functions of this position include:

  • Conduct research and analysis of corporate finance and governance issues;
  • Monitor federal regulatory agencies' activities on shareholder issues (SEC, House Financial Services, etc.);
  • Research and writing of comment letters regarding proposed rules and regulations;
  • Research portfolio companies' performance, governance issues;
  • Assist in the formulation of shareholder initiatives;
  • Assist in the drafting of proxy voting guidelines;
  • Conduct research on financial factors related to environmental, sustainable and governance (ESG)-related risks and opportunities;
  • Generate and interpret data, perform advance analytics, draw conclusions from data, create and deliver custom reports;
  • File shareholder resolutions in compliance with the Securities and Exchange Commission's 14-8(a) rules;
  • Prepare presentations and reports on the CRPTF's proxy voting activities for internal and external distribution;
  • Work with external organizations for research support;
  • Support engagements with portfolio companies and Treasury vendors:
  • Coordinate with investor coalitions on key initiatives; 
  • Organize and participate on calls with membership organizations and other relevant groups; and
  • Other duties or tasks that may be assigned to this position.

PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)

Acts as an executive assistant to a state elective officer or department head as defined in Section 4-5 of the Connecticut General Statutes and performs such duties as are assigned.
