The State of Connecticut Department of Transportation (DOT) invites its qualified agency employees to apply for the position of Transportation Maintainer 4 (Post Pounder Operator) in the East Hartford Maintenance Facility. This position is responsible for operating a post pounder used in performing tasks related to fence repairs. The position is 37.5 hours per week with a work schedule of Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Incumbents in this class must be willing to accept assignment to emergency overtime duties, including snow and ice removal, whenever his or her services are needed; mandatory winter overtime from November 1 through April 30. Incumbents in this class will be required to have a 30 mile residency requirement from the posted job location.
Applicants invited to interview will be required to produce a copy of their current valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class A or B, reflecting the "tank endorsement," and valid Medical Examiner's Card (MEC) at time of interview, or they will be immediately disqualified. Candidates will be required to bring a copy of their Master Application and their last two service ratings. The Agency will conduct a practicum for the Transportation Maintainer 4 (Post Pounder) title, to evaluate and determine whether or not applicant(s) have the skills and qualifications to perform the duties of this position. ***Practicums shall be conducted pursuant to the Department of Transportation Administrative Guidelines for Conducting Practicums and will be part of the interview process.
In order to be considered for this job opening, you must be a current State of CT employee of the Department of Transportation, who has permanent state status* and meet the Minimum Qualifications as listed on the job opening. You must specify your qualifications on your application.
*For employees in the classified service, permanent status is obtained after successful completion of a working test period. For employees in the unclassified service, permanent status is obtained after serving in a position for at least six months (full-time equivalent).

The following is a list of example of duties and responsibilities of the position:
* Identify and wear prescribed safety equipment.
* Identify safety aspects of the specified equipment and successfully complete a pre-trip inspection and practicum on specified equipment.
* Identify CBYD “Call Before You Dig” markings and call in procedures for emergency CBYD.
* Identify hazards of specified equipment as well as pinch points.
* Demonstrate knowledge of installation and repairs of fence lines.
* Be familiar with post pounder and support truck setup and takedown procedures and safe operation.
