The State of Connecticut Department of Transportation (DOT) invites its qualified agency employees to apply for the position of Transportation Maintenance Crew Leader (Highway Maintenance) located in the Thomaston Maintenance Facility. The work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m., 37.50 hours per week.
Candidates must indicate they hold a current and valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with tank endorsement in the "Licenses and Professional Certifications" section of the application, or they will not be consideredIncumbents in this class must be willing to accept assignment to emergency duties, including snow and ice removal, whenever his or her services are needed; to include mandatory winter overtime from November 1 through April 30. Various storm events will require employees to stay at work for the duration of the storm; which at times could be up to a period of several days, to include holidays and weekends. Applicants invited to interview will be required to produce a copy of their current valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class A or B, reflecting the "tank endorsement," and valid Medical Examiner's Card (MEC) at time of interview, or they will be immediately disqualified. Candidates will be required to bring a copy of their Master Application and a thoroughly completed Connecticut Department of Transportation Commercial Driver Supplement (CTDOT-CDL-1).

*For employees in the classified service, permanent status is obtained after successful completion of a working test period. For employees in the unclassified service, permanent status is obtained after serving in a position for at least six months (full-time equivalent).

Knowledge of materials, equipment and approved methods of surface treatment, surface and shoulder betterments, concrete work, guide rail construction, drainage construction and maintenance; knowledge of approved methods of filling joints, patching, snow removal and sanding ice, and erosion control; ability to make minor bridge repairs; interpersonal skills; oral and written communication skills; ability to utilize computer software; some supervisory ability.
Two (2) years of skilled experience in the maintenance and repair of highways.
Note: For State Employees the General Experience is interpreted at the level of Transportation Maintainer 2.
