The State of Connecticut, State Department of Education is recruiting for six (6) full-time Behavioral Resources Intervention Monitor positions within The Connecticut Technical Education and Career SystemThese positions will be in multiple locations within CTECS (Bridgeport, Groton, Hamden, Hartford, New Britain). The Connecticut Technical Education and Career System serves approximately 11,200 full-time high school students. In a high school environment, the incumbents will be responsible for supporting students and implementing plans to improve behavior, as well as a full range of clerical duties assigned by the Principal. The hours are Monday-Friday 6:45 AM - 3:15 PM.

PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)

In the State Department of Education, this class is accountable for providing behavioral resources and intervention programs.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Provides behavioral resources and intervention services to students; assists in implementing Behavioral Education Plans; assists students in participating in general school activities and is responsible for safety and personal conduct of students; addresses student behaviors; handles maladaptive behavior; assists misbehaving students to alter their behavior; finds ways to engage students to effect positive attitudes and control on behavior; encourages the improvement in student attitude and behavior, school atmosphere, academic performance and personal growth; promotes and facilitates peer support groups; uses  disciplinary action to stimulate an opportunity to reflect and learn about consequences; instills collective values and encourages behavior that is acceptable for the classroom and school environment; works with school staff and parent or guardian of student; maintains logs and prepares timely accurate reports regarding incidents and progress to adjust behaviors; participates as a member of the schools interdisciplinary team; performs related duties as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY

Knowledge of biological, cognitive and social-emotional development of adolescents stages; knowledge of puberty, cognition, morality, identity, relationships, school, work and culture of adolescents; knowledge of behavioral modification strategies; considerable interpersonal skills; oral and written communications skills; ability to express ideas clearly; ability to engage youth; ability to facilitate group interaction; ability to utilize computer software.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE

Four (4) years working with behavioral resources and intervention of adolescents in a high school environment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SUBSTITUTIONS ALLOWED

1. An Associate's Degree in the behavioral sciences, human services or psychology may be substituted for the General Experience.

2. Fifteen (15) college credits in a course of study leading to a Bachelor's Degree in a behavioral science or a human service area may be substituted for six months of the General Experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preference will be given to applicants with the following:

1. Experience assisting individuals, groups and school through the application of positive behavior intervention support.

2. Experience conducting Functional Behavioral Analysis supporting Behavioral Intervention Plans.

3. Experience in goal setting and case management of students with inappropriate behaviors.

4. Experience in providing classroom and school-wide behavior management strategies.

5. Knowledge of behavior strategies that are explicit, progressive, accelerated, restorative and that provide opportunities for practice.

6. Experience maintaining records of student growth and progress monitoring.

7. Experience collaborating with a team of administrators, support services staff, teachers and parents.

8. Experience in creating Behavioral programs.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Incumbents in this class may be exposed to some risk of injury from assaultive or abusive students.
