The State of Connecticut, Department of Correction is recruiting for a Correctional HVACR Technician at Bridgeport Correctional Center. This posting may be used for future vacancies at correctional institutions in Bridgeport, Brooklyn, Niantic and Uncasville as they occur in the next year.
This position is full time, Monday through Friday, first shift 7:45 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and is entitled to excellent benefits including health, dental and a 25 year hazardous duty retirement. New hires to the State of Connecticut will start at $49,330 and salary is non-negotiable. The selected candidate will be required to attend a 12 week hazardous duty training at the Maloney Center for Training & Staff Development located in Cheshire, CT.

In a Department of Correction facility or district this class is accountable for acting as a working supervisor for inmates and/or independently performing a full range of tasks in the repair, monitoring and installation of heating, ventilating, air conditioning and refrigeration and related control systems.
Considerable knowledge of materials, methods, tools and equipment involved in heating, ventilating, air conditioning and refrigeration trade; knowledge of hazardous material regulations; knowledge of computer based heating and cooling systems; interpersonal skills; oral and written communication skills; ability to operate and interpret computerized and automated control systems; ability to plan, layout and schedule maintenance assignments ;ability to maintain records and prepare reports; ability to read schematics and flow charts; ability to instruct inmates or other employees in the techniques and skills used in the trade; ability to perform under stress and remain stable in pressure situations; some supervisory ability.
