Since 1903, the Connecticut State Police (CSP) has provided a full range of law enforcement services to the State of Connecticut. The Division of State Police is comprised of three (3) Districts, Western District, Central District, and Eastern District. There are currently 11 troops located throughout the state with State Police troopers providing the primary law enforcement services in 79 of the 169 municipalities in Connecticut. Additionally, the CSP provides major crime, emergency services, cause and origin investigations and traffic and truck enforcement to the entire state.
This announcement will be used to create a pool of candidates to fill future vacancies within DESPP, Division of State Police. To be considered for these opportunities at any location to the class of State Police Lieutenant, you must submit a complete application through JobAps before the closing date. Permanent assignment to any of these vacancies are subject to all mandatory requirements.
In order to be considered for this job opening, you must be a current State of CT employee of the Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection, who has permanent state status*, and meet the Minimum Qualifications as listed on the job opening. You must specify your qualifications on your application. *For employees in the classified service, permanent status is obtained after successful completion of a working test period. For employees in the unclassified service, permanent status is obtained after serving in a position for at least six months (full-time or full-time equivalent).
Selection Process:
The Connecticut State Police promotional process is extensive and follows 4 steps from application to hire.
1) Application/Examination Period: How to apply for a State of CT Job Opportunity
2) Referral Questions: Candidates who pass the application/examination period will be sent, via email, referral questions which they must respond to and submit by the date and time specified on the email notice. There will be two (2) rounds of referral questions which candidates will be required to complete; each round of referral questions will be sent to the candidates separately. The second round of referral questions will only be sent to candidates who submit and pass the first round of questions. Candidates who do not submit their answers to the referral questions by the specified date and time listed on each notice will be eliminated from this administration process for State Police Lieutenant.
3) Professional Profile: The Professional Profile will consist of a structured summary of the candidates law enforcement (and related) training and experience, formal education, and any supervisory or leadership experience, and will be used to assess the candidate’s preparedness to become a State Police Lieutenant. Information regarding the Professional Profile will be sent to candidates who are invited for an interview. The profile must be submitted to the interview panel on the day of the candidate’s scheduled interview.
4) Oral Interview: Candidates have submitted and passed both rounds of referral questions, will be invited to interview for the position of State Police Lieutenant. The interview will be conducted by a panel of current Connecticut State Police Personnel. Also considered in this selection process: any pending or disciplinary history within the past 2 years and review of attendance records.
