Introduction

 

 

The State of ConnecticutDepartment of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP), Bureau of Outdoor Recreation, Boating Division, is currently seeking to fill a Seasonal Resource Assistant position to provide basic office support work at DEEP Marine Headquarters located at 333 Ferry Road, Old Lyme, CT.

Join a group of passionate full time and seasonal staff to promote clean and safe boating. Much of the office work is based during Monday- Friday, but there are some weekend or evening outreach events. 

This  is a 40 hour per week position and is available from December through May. 

Length of position: Six months from date of hire, but no greater than 1040 hours total.   

Salary: Pay rate varies from $11.00 to $14.00 per hour depending on education and experience. No benefits

Selection Plan

This position is non-competitive. Open to the public.

May be required to accompany boating staff to various training sessions to provide clerical assistance.

Candidate must have a valid driver’s license.

Must be able to periodically work weekends and holidays.

PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)

In the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, as a limited duration employee, performs one or more of a variety of tasks and assigned duties of a seasonal nature.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Duties include:

Assists the Boating Division Education/Outreach/Certification Unit with numerous activities including distributing materials to support the Student Ambassador Program, attending public outreach events during the evenings and weekends, distributing safe boating class materials, etc.;

Provides general office and operation support services; and

Assists with other office related duties, as needed.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY

Ability to follow instructions.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Must be proficient with Microsoft Office programs and perform a variety of entry level clerical duties.

Knowledge of boating is a plus.

Ability to discuss boating and outreach topics with the public and school administrators.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

1. Incumbents in this class who are assigned as supervisors of small recreational units will perform emergency first aid as needed and will be required to obtain and retain a Basic First Aid Certificate.

2. Incumbents in this class may be required for certain positions to meet any of the following:

a. Proof of possession of a valid Motor Vehicle Operator license.

b. Possession of a valid license to apply pesticides.

c. College training in a specific field.

d. Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification may be required by specific State facilities.

3. Incumbents performing lifeguard services must have and retain an American Red Cross (ARC) Lifeguarding Certification (includes CPR for the Professional Rescuer and Basic First Aid). An EMT or MRT certification may be substituted for the CPR and First Aid requirements.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

1. Incumbents in this class must possess and maintain adequate physical strength and stamina to perform the duties of the class.

2. Incumbents performing lifeguard services must be able to demonstrate American Red Cross (ARC) waterfront lifeguarding swimming skills.
