The State of Connecticut Department of Transportation (DOT) invites current State of CT employees to apply for the position of Transportation Supervisor's Assistant located in the Westport Maintenance Facility. The hours are Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m., 37.5 hours per week. Incumbents in this class must be willing to commit to and accept assignment to emergency duties, including mandatory winter overtime from November 1 through April 30, whenever his or her services are needed. Various storm events will require employees to stay at work for the duration of the storm; which at times could be up to period of several days, to include holidays and weekends. No out of state vacations will be approved during this period.
This position is in a garage environment and is accountable for performing a full range of general clerical and maintenance assistance functions in the operation of a DOT Maintenance garage. The various office and recordkeeping duties require preciseness and accuracy, and a sense of urgency, in that they are directly related to public safety. Computer skills, such as Word, Excel, basic word processing, and the State's Core and STARS Systems are used extensively in many of these duties, and a major knowledge of these applications is required. The incumbent must have the ability to multi-task, be self-motivated and would be expected to take the initiative in completing the duties. The office can be very busy at times, with various emergencies happening concurrently. Interpersonal skills and dealing with the public play a significant role.
Incumbents in this class will be required to have a 20-mile residency from the job location. Applicants invited to interview will be requested to supply a copy of their Driver's License a printed copy of their JobAps Application and their last two performance appraisals.

*For employees in the classified service, permanent status is obtained after successful completion of a working test period. For employees in the unclassified service, permanent status is obtained after serving in a position for at least six months (full-time or full-time equivalent).
