Introduction

The State of Connecticut Department of Developmental Services (DDS) - Public Division - currently has one (1) full-time job opportunity for a Developmental Services Director of Residential Programs position based in the Wallingford office.

This is a 40 hour per week position with a schedule of Monday through Friday: 8:30 am - 5:00 pm. However, must be flexible in order to meet the needs of the agency.

This position is open to Agency Employees only.

In order to be considered for this job opening, you must be a current State of CT employee of the Department of Developmental Services, who has permanent state status*, and meet the Minimum Qualifications as listed on the job opening.  You must specify your qualifications on your application. 

*For employees in the classified service, permanent status is obtained after successful completion of a working test period.  For employees in the unclassified service, permanent status is obtained after serving in a position for at least six months (full-time or full-time equivalent).

PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)

In the Department of Developmental Services, this class is accountable for directing the residential program for persons with intellectual disability or other developmental disabilities.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Directs staff and operations of multi-disciplinary department providing programs for residents; plans and manages program activities; formulates program goals and objectives; develops or assists in development of related policy; interprets and administers pertinent laws; evaluates staff; prepares or assists in preparation of program budget; maintains contacts with individuals both within and outside of program who might impact on program activities; prepares reports and correspondence; develops staff education programs for managerial and supervisory staff; reviews all staff/client incident reports and prepares corrective action plans; schedules hours of work for residential directors; participates in staff conferences and resident evaluation conferences; reviews and approves staff reports; monitors quality assurance and ICF compliance in assigned units; may confer with doctors on medical services for residents; may inspect physical conditions of resident homes; may serve as a representative of faculty for public activities; performs related duties as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY

Considerable knowledge of and ability to apply management principles and techniques; considerable knowledge of modern methods of dealing with persons with intellectual disability or other developmental disabilities; considerable knowledge of methods of residential management; considerable interpersonal skills; considerable oral and written communication skills; considerable ability to plan, organize and direct a residential care program; ability to prepare comprehensive reports; ability to speak before professional and citizen groups.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE

Two (2) years of experience in a program for persons with intellectual disability or other developmental disabilities in a managerial capacity.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Considerable knowledge of and ability to apply management principles and techniques; considerable knowledge of modern methods of dealing with persons with intellectual disability or other developmental disabilities; considerable knowledge of methods of residential management; considerable interpersonal skills; considerable oral and written communication skills; considerable ability to plan, organize and direct a residential care program; ability to prepare comprehensive reports; ability to speak before professional and citizen groups. Two (2) years of experience in a program for persons with intellectual disability or other developmental disabilities in a managerial capacity.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Incumbents in this class may be required by the appointing authority to be licensed as a registered professional nurse in Connecticut.
