The State of Connecticut, Department of Developmental Services (DDS) - North Region - currently has one (1) full-time job opportunity for a DS Supported Living Worker position in the Individual and Family Support (IFS) Division, based in the Newington Office, CT.
This is a thirty-five (35) hour per week position with the work schedule as follows:
Second (2nd) Shift: Sunday thru Thursday: 1:00pm - 8:30pm; Regular Days Off: Friday and Saturday. However, must be flexible in order to meet the needs of the agency.

*For employees in the classified service, permanent status is obtained after successful completion of a working test period. For employees in the unclassified service, permanent status is obtained after serving in a position for at least six months (full-time or full-time equivalent).
• Incumbents in this class must have the ability to work independently with minimal supervision to problem solve and resolve complex situations with individuals and families who need in or out of home supports.
• Incumbents in this class must possess the ability to apply training to make good decisions regarding care and treatment.

In the Department of Developmental Services, within a regional Supported Living Program/Individual Supports, this class is accountable for implementing programs, providing care, guidance, training and supervision of individuals living in the community.
Knowledge of modern methods of working with persons with intellectual disabilities and other related conditions; knowledge of safety, hygiene and health practices and procedures; knowledge of state and federal assistance programs; knowledge of relevant state and federal laws, statutes, regulations and procedures; some knowledge of medication administration and effects of medication; considerable interpersonal skills; oral and written communication skills; ability to recognize and report behavioral changes; ability to coordinate and collaborate effectively with individuals, groups and families; ability to work independently and make decisions.
One (1) year of experience in direct residential support services to persons with intellectual disabilities and other related conditions at the level of a Developmental Services Worker 1 (or equivalent experience in a human service field).
Incumbents in this class must possess physical and emotional health for efficient performance of duties; a physical examination may be required.
Incumbents in this class may be required to lift and restrain individuals; may have exposure to communicable/infectious diseases and to risk of injury from assaultive/abusive individuals; may be exposed to disagreeable conditions.
