Introduction

The State of Connecticut, Department of Developmental Services (DDS) - North Region - currently has one (1) full-time, thirty-five (35) hours per week job opportunity for a Supervising Developmental Services Worker 1 based at 411 Wetherell Street, Manchester.

Position details are as follows:

This is a full-time, thirty-five (35) hour per week position. The work schedule is 1st & 2nd Shift:
Tuesday: 8:30am - 3:30pm; Wednesday: 1:00pm - 8:00pm; Thursday: 8:00am - 3:00pm; Friday & Saturday: 7:00am - 2:00pm.
Regular Days Off: Sunday & Monday. However, must be flexible in order to meet the needs of the agency.

PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)

In the Department of Developmental Services this class is accountable for acting as a supervisor or lead worker.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Duties consistent with SDSW job specification. The SDSW provides leadership, supervision and direction for five (5) individuals living in a licensed CLA. Duties and responsibilities include: oversees payroll, overtime distribution and approval; develop & implement individual centered teaching strategies and train staff to successfully implement these programs; implementation of licensing procedures & plan of corrections; insure DDS Policies & Procedures are followed to ensure health & safety of all individuals; trains all individuals in fire and emergency evacuations drills; insures employees assists each individual with meal preparation/planning, grocery shopping and leisure activities in the community; manages individuals in-house funds; conducts and manages staff orientation/inservice training; provides direct supervision to employees on all shifts; functions as the liaison between the CLA, day program providers, parents, guardians, IDT and community medical providers; works with medical personnel to insure medical appointments are scheduled and completed timely;  insures maintenance and daily upkeep of the home is maintained, trains staff and completes performance reviews; performs other duties as required. Incumbent may be required to "work in coverage." 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY

Considerable knowledge of modern methods of working with individuals with intellectual disabilities; considerable knowledge of goals, policies and organization of a residential living unit; considerable knowledge of rehabilitative and interdisciplinary process; knowledge of support services provided in residential care such as housekeeping, dietary, maintenance and laundry; considerable interpersonal skills; ability to implement policies and operational procedures; supervisory ability.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE

One (1) year's experience working with persons with individuals with intellectual disabilities at the level of Developmental Services Worker 2.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Experience working with individuals with Intellectual and/or Developmental Disabilities
• Good writing and communications skills
• Computer proficiency (e.g. Outlook, Word, Excel)

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

1. Incumbents in this class may be required to be bilingual or fluent in American Sign Language.
2. Incumbents in this class may be required to possess and retain a valid Connecticut Motor Vehicle Operator's license, Public Passenger Endorsement or Commercial Driver's license for designated positions.
3. Incumbents in this class may be required to travel.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Incumbents in this class must possess physical and emotional health for efficient performance of duties; a physical examination may be required.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Incumbents in this class may be required to lift and restrain individuals; may have some exposure to communicable/infectious diseases and to risk of injury from assaultive and/or abusive individuals; may be exposed to moderately disagreeable conditions.
