The State of Connecticut, Department of Transportation (DOT), Bureau of Finance and Administration has an opening for a Maintainer in their Facilities Management's Region 4 office located in Newington. The work hours are 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Incumbents in this class must be willing to accept assignment to emergency duties, including snow and ice removal, whenever his or her services are needed and must participate in mandatory winter overtime which occurs from November 1 through April 30 each year. This class is accountable for performing basic tasks of an unskilled nature in our Region 4 facilities including building and equipment maintenance (operational and remedial), landscaping and groundskeeping duties; mandatory snow and ice assignment; operation of complex mechanical equipment; vehicle transport; and mail deliveries.
*The entry level rate for this class will be ten (10%) percent below Step 1 of the salary grade. Upon completion of the initial working test period the incumbent’s salary will be adjusted to the TC pay plan, Step 1, shown above. The posted salary range is effective July 1, 2019.

In a state agency this class is accountable for performing basic tasks of an unskilled nature (e.g. requiring little prior experience or training; most tasks can be learned quickly on the job) in one or several of the following areas:
- building and equipment maintenance (operational and remedial)
- grounds care
- food services
- operation of trucks of less than five ton capacity
- parking garage
Strong interpersonal skills and a customer service focus to provide service to over 1,500 employees in the complex; oral and written communication skills; ability to follow written and oral instructions; ability to learn policies and procedures; ability to operate, care for, and perform minor maintenance on tools and equipment used in daily work; some ability in simple recordkeeping and utilize computer software.
Preferred candidates will possess:
1. Experience in minor building repairs; plumbing; electrical; carpentry; painting; and grounds maintenance (mowing, weeding, shoveling, raking); along with an understanding of snow and ice control.
2. Ability to perform semiskilled tasks in construction, maintenance, mechanical repair, electrical, carpentry, masonry, plumbing, and painting.
3. Ability to use, set up, and maintain ordinary bench and other shop machine tools and equipment as required.
4. Ability to operate and maintain complex mechanical equipment as required.
5. Basic recordkeeping skills to be used for items such as logging preventative maintenance and creating work orders and vehicle assignments.
6. Some computer experience preferred.
