The State of Connecticut, Department of Public Health (DPH), Drinking Water Section (DWS) is responsible for the administration and implementation of state and federal public health-focused drinking water laws and regulations, and is dedicated to assuring the purity and adequacy of the state’s public drinking water systems and sources. The DWS provides technical assistance, education and regulatory enforcement to Connecticut’s 2,550 public drinking water systems, which provide public drinking water to approximately 2.8 million people on a daily basis. The DWS is committed to protecting and promoting healthy people in healthy Connecticut communities by assuring the use and distribution of high quality public drinking water for human consumption.
The DWS has two job opportunities for an Engineer Intern within its Technical Review & Field Assessment Unit. Engineer Interns receive training under direction of a supervisor or senior staff person for a period of one year before being promoted to the target class of Sanitary Engineer 1 upon successful completion of the training period. Responsibilities will include conducting sanitary surveys of public water systems, reviewing and approving technical plans and specifications for proposed water and treatment works projects, writing technical reports, responding to customer complaints, and providing technical assistance to public water systems and certified operators.
These Engineer Intern positions (target class- Sanitary Engineer 1) are permanent, 35-hour per week, full-time positions.
