Introduction

The State of Connecticut, Department of Developmental Services (DDS) - West Region - has one (1) current full-time job opportunity for a Developmental Services Residential Program Supervisor 1 based out of the Northwest Regional Center - Intermediate Care Facility (ICF) in Torrington.

This is a 35-hour per week position with work schedule as follows:
Monday - Friday: 8:00am - 3:30pm
Regular Days Off: Saturday & Sunday
However, must be flexible in order to meet the needs of the agency.

PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)

In the Department of Developmental Services this class is accountable for assisting in the supervision and implementation of programs designed for individuals with intellectual disability or other developmental disabilities.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Assists in development and implementation of policies, programs, scheduling and operating procedures; directs, coordinates, evaluates and monitors performance of residential program unit including monitoring staff implementation of individual client teaching strategies; confers with staff on routine operational, disciplinary and special problems; evaluates performance of clients and employees in cooperation with assigned staff; conducts inservice training on intellectual disability practices and procedures and care of clients; arranges client search parties and coordinates emergency responses; reviews reports of subordinates and prepares periodic operational reports; makes rounds to insure units are clean and safe; may attend interdisciplinary team and administrative meetings; may work with parent and community groups; may counsel clients or employees on problems; may interview candidates for position openings; may be assigned responsibility for orderly operation of facility on a shift; may notify other departments of deficiencies and assist in implementing plans of correction within units; performs related duties as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY

Considerable knowledge of intellectual disability procedures and terminology; considerable knowledge of modern methods of dealing with individuals with intellectual disability or other developmental disabilities; considerable knowledge of rehabilitative and interdisciplinary process; considerable interpersonal skills; ability to administer activities of a unit; ability to analyze and resolve day to day problems of individuals with intellectual disability or other developmental disabilities; supervisory ability.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE

Four (4) years of experience in the care and supervision of individuals with intellectual disability.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SPECIAL EXPERIENCE

One (1) year of the General Experience must have been in a supervisory capacity at the level of a Supervising Developmental Services Worker 1 or 2.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SUBSTITUTIONS ALLOWED

College training, preferably in an educational, nursing or social science field, may be substituted for the General Experience on the basis of two (2) years of college education equalling one (1) year of experience to a maximum of two (2) years.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Experience working with individuals with Intellectual and/or Developmental Disabilities.
• Considerable knowledge of ICF Regulations.
• Ability to demonstrate knowledge of policies and procedures related to payroll, purchasing, data collection, scheduling and ICF.
• Ability to demonstrate organizational and interpersonal skills in response to interview questions.
• Good writing and communication skills.
• Computer proficiency and experience in Microsoft Office including but not limited to Outlook, Word & Excel.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

1. Incumbents in this class may be required to be bilingual or fluent in American Sign Language.
2. Incumbents in this class will be required to travel.

3. Incumbents in this class must possess and retain a valid Motor Vehicle License.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Incumbents in this class will be required to possess physical and emotional health for efficient performance of duties; a physical examination may be required.
