This is a 37.5 hour position that is located in the East Haven Repair Facility . The hours are Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Incumbents in this class must be willing to accept assignment to emergency duties, including snow and ice removal, whenever his or her services are needed; mandatory winter overtime from November 1 through April 30.

This Transportation Garage Supervisor is a critical supervisory operational position within the Bureau of Highway Operations responsible for managing the East Haven Repair Facility in District 3 which is staffed with a staff of QCW(Auto)s.
This position is responsible for establishing and meeting Department objectives related to repairing heavy duty equipment (9 ton dump trucks, etc) required for the Highway Maintenance bureau. The skilled staff assigned to the repair garage performs mechanics and automotive repairs to the Bureau's fleet and equipment (which include snowplow trucks) in their location. The Bureau's automotive fleet and equipment are utilized by the agency's maintenance workforce to perform operations that daily impact the motoring public (including handling of emergency situations, highway maintenance, assigned equipment operation, (pothole patchers, payloaders, etc.), and the Department's highway snow/ice removal program. Having sufficient supervisory staff in the Equipment Repair Program is necessary to ensure compliance with environmental and safety regulations and to ensure that the equipment is available and safe for maintenance staff to operate and comply with the agency's statutory obligations.
This position also responds to emergency overtime during natural disasters and emergency snow/ ice operations. This position also makes sure that the garage is on target with the seasonal equipment preparedness needs and preventative maintenance on the equipment itself, which prolongs the life of the equipment and keeps costs down. Having the appropriate staffing level impacts all matters governed under Conn. General Statutes 13a-93, 13a97(c), 13a-110, 13a119, and 13a-124. This position handles supervisory tasks in running the garage, which include employee issues, grievances and hiring. Specialized automotive and technical knowledge is also required for this position. Without proper supervision and automotive expertise; accountability, having checks and balances, productivity, fiscal prudence, and job training are negatively impacted.
