Introduction

Department of Developmental Services - North Region has a job opportunity for a Assistant Regional Residential Manager based at The Hartford Regional Center, Newington in the Step Down Unit Division.

This is a full-time forty (40) hours per week position. The work schedule is Monday through Friday - 8:30am - 4:30pm. However, must be flexible in order to meet the needs of the agency, individuals and their families.

  • Incumbents in this class must posses at least two (2) years of experience in supervisory capacity in a residential program for persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities in a direct care or clinical services setting at the level of Developmental Services Residential Program Supervisor 1; Psychology Associate Specialist; Developmental Specialist 2 or Qualified Intellectual Developmental Disabilities Professional.
  • Incumbents in this class will be required to possess and retain a valid CT Motor Vehicle Operator's License.

PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)

In the Department of Developmental Services this class is accountable for assisting the Developmental Services Regional Residential Manager in the implementation and management of programs for clients in agency community and campus residential settings or in the development and management of contracts for private community living arrangements.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Assists Residential Manager in planning, coordinating and managing activities of an agency program consisting of community living arrangements, campus residential programs or privately contracted residential services; formulates program goals and objectives; assists in development of policies; schedules, assigns and reviews work of staff; provides staff training; ensures protection of clients quality of life by monitoring program compliance and environmental safety issues; assists in establishing and maintaining ICF/MR certification including developing plans of correction; may oversee interdisciplinary team process and/or development of an overall plan of services for assigned clients; may assist Residential Manager in developing private sector contracts and monitoring quality of service delivery; performs related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY

Considerable knowledge of theory and methods used in dealing with personality and emotional development problems of individuals with intellectual or other developmental disabilities particularly with concerns about how these are dealt with in a residential setting; considerable knowledge of how to establish, maintain and change residential systems and programs of care for clients including ICF requirements; considerable knowledge of ancillary needs of a residential program; knowledge of and ability to apply management principles and techniques; knowledge of relevant State and Federal laws, statutes and regulations; knowledge of interdisciplinary approach to program planning; knowledge of human rights of individuals with intellectual or other developmental disabilities; knowledge of scope of services provided by major disciplines including psychology, social work and medicine for individuals with intellectual or other developmental disabilities; considerable interpersonal skills; considerable oral and written communication skills.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE

Two (2) years of experience in a supervisory capacity in a residential program for individuals with intellectual disability in a direct care or clinical services setting at the level of Developmental Services Residential Program Supervisor 1, Developmental Specialist 2 or Developmental Services Case Manager.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Preference will be given to candidate with experience working with individuals with Intellectual and/or Developmental Disabilities who are in psychiatric settings or in behavioral crisis.
  • Good verbal, written and communications skills
  • Computer proficiency (e.g. Outlook, Word, Excel)
  • Preference will be given to candidate who have experience working effectively with community agencies and hospitals
  • Strong interpersonal skills

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

1. Incumbents in this class may be required to possess a current license or certificate to practice the speciality in Connecticut. This requirement applies to those specialities requiring a license to practice by statute.
2. Incumbents in this class may be required to travel.
