Department of Developmental Services - West Region is currently recruiting for eight (8) Developmental Services Worker 1 based in Lower Fairfield Center, Norwalk. These are all full-time, thirty-five (35) hours per week positions.
Position details are as follows:
1. LFC, Apt.# C & D – 2 Positions with work schedules as follows:
a. 2nd Shift – This is a full-time thirty-five (40/30) hours per week position. Week one: Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Wednesday and Thursday: 2:00pm-10:30pm. Regular Days Off: Monday and Tuesday. Week two: Friday: 2:00pm-8:30pm; Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday: 2:00pm-10:30pm. Regular Days Off: Saturday, Sunday and Thursday. Must be flexible in order to meet the needs of the agency.
b. 2nd Shift – This is a full-time thirty-five (30/40) hours per week position. Week one: Saturday and Sunday: 2:00pm-10:30pm; Monday and Tuesday: 1:00pm-8:30pm Regular Days Off: Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Week two: Friday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday: 1:00pm-9:30pm. Regular Days Off: Saturday and Sunday. Must be flexible in order to meet the needs of the agency.
2. LFC, Apt.# E & F – 4 Positions with work schedules as follows:
a. 2nd Shift – This is a full-time thirty-five (31/39) hours per week position. Week one: Friday, Saturday, and Wednesday: 2:00pm-10:30pm; Sunday: 2:00pm-9:30pm. Regular Days Off: Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. Week two: Friday, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday: 2:00pm-10:30pm; Saturday: 2:00pm-9:30pm. Regular Days Off: Wednesday and Thursday. Must be flexible in order to meet the needs of the agency.
b. 2nd Shift – This is a full-time thirty-five (31/39) hours per week position. Week one: Sunday, Monday and Wednesday: 2:00pm-10:30pm; Tuesday: 2:00pm-9:30pm. Regular Days Off: Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Week two: Friday, Saturday, Wednesday and Thursday: 2:00pm-10:30pm; Sunday: 2:00pm-9:30pm. Regular Days Off: Monday and Tuesday. Must be flexible in order to meet the needs of the agency.
c. 2nd Shift – This is a full-time thirty-five (31/39) hours per week position. Week one: Saturday: 2:00pm-9:30pm; Sunday, Monday and Thursday: 2:00pm-10:30pm; . Regular Days Off: Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. Week two: Friday, Saturday, Tuesday and Wednesday: 2:00pm-10:30pm; Sunday: 2:00pm-9:30pm. Regular Days Off: Monday and Thursday. Must be flexible in order to meet the needs of the agency.
d. 2nd Shift – This is a full-time thirty-five (39/31) hours per week position. Week one: Friday: 2:00pm-9:30pm; Saturday, Sunday, Wednesday and Thursday: 2:00pm-10:30pm. Regular Days Off: Monday and Tuesday. Week two: Saturday, Sunday and Monday: 2:00pm-10:30pm; Thursday: 2:00pm-9:30pm. Regular Days Off: Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. Must be flexible in order to meet the needs of the agency.
3. LFC, Apt.# G & H – 2 Positions with work schedules as follows:
a. 2nd Shift – This is a full-time thirty-five (31/39) hours per week position. Week one: Saturday, Sunday and Monday: 2:00pm-10:30pm; Thursday: 2:00pm-9:30pm Regular Days Off: Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. Week two: Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Wednesday: 2:00pm-10:30pm; Thursday: 2:00pm-9:30pm. Regular Days Off: Monday and Tuesday. Must be flexible in order to meet the needs of the agency.
b. 2nd Shift – This is a full-time thirty-five (40/30) hours per week position. Week one: Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday and Wednesday: 2:00pm-10:30pm. Regular Days Off: Tuesday and Thursday. Week two: Sunday and Tuesday: 2:00pm-10:30pm; Monday and Wednesday: 2:00pm-9:30pm. Regular Days Off: Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Must be flexible in order to meet the needs of the agency.

In the Department of Developmental Services this class is accountable for acting as part of a team in an intensive programming effort designed for the care, guidance, supervision and training of individuals.
Receives training in, then independently implements, policies and procedures designed to achieve objectives of a program for persons with intellectual disabilities; provides assistance and instruction to individuals in activities of daily living; participates in therapeutic programs for development of individuals capabilities; provides guidance and instruction to individuals in development of desirable personal habits, hygiene and social relationships; implements individual program plans; participates in preparation, serving and feeding of meals; performs housekeeping duties necessary to maintain a clean and healthy environment; participates in social and recreational activities; reinforces appropriate individual behavior through modification techniques; may administer selected oral medications with appropriate training; performs related duties as required.
Considerable interpersonal skills; ability to develop a positive relationship with individuals; ability to train individuals in self care habits, personal hygiene and proper social conduct; ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions.
Experience and/or training that could be expected to provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities listed above.
• Experience working with individuals with Intellectual and/or Developmental Disabilities
• Good writing and communications skills
• Computer proficiency (e.g. Outlook, Word, Excel)
Incumbents in this class must possess physical and emotional health for efficient performance of duties; a physical examination may be required.
Incumbents in this class may be required to lift and restrain individuals; may have significant exposure to communicable/infectious diseases and to risk of injury from assaultive/abusive individuals; may be exposed to strongly disagreeable conditions.
