The Department of Economic and Community Development is seeking museum guides to be stationed at one of the four State Museums: Old New-Gate Prison and Copper Mine (East Granby). The museum guides will report to the staff person in charge of the site. This is a 37.5 hour/week position and requires weekend work. Individual work schedules will be determined by the site supervisor, however the work week will begin on Wednesday and run through Sunday. Some holiday work will be required.
In various agencies as a summer employee performs one or more tasks and assigned duties of a seasonal nature in providing a variety of services to clients or the public in one of several areas. Minimum and maximum hourly rates will be subject to the following criteria:
1. Returning Summer Workers may receive $.50 an hour additional compensation for each season of service up to the maximum hourly rate.

Two summer workers are needed to provide for visitor services and ensure both the safety of visitors to the sites and safety of the historic collections and properties during the summer season (June 1-November 1, 2018) when the museums experience a high level of visitation. With the addition of seasonal workers, the museums - similarly to the state parks - can serve a larger number of visitors, ensure their safety and offer value-added programming to visitors, engaging the public and engendering positive feelings about state government and the use of tax dollars. Summer workers will interact directly with visitors of all ages presenting information about the museums, answering questions, assisting with program presentation, basic site maintenance tasks, opening and closing the facilities, make rounds of site for security purposes, answering telephones, gift shop operations, ticket sales, and special events. Work hours during specified work days may vary depending on hours of operation and special events.
Experience working with children or the public in a museum setting is preferred. Summer workers must be able to traverse uneven terrain and be comfortable outdoors in all weather situations. They must be able to lift up to 20 pounds. Knowledge of spoken languages in addition to English is a plus.
