Introduction
The Seasonal Resource Assistant assigned to the Recreational Trails and Greenways Program will provide office and field support to the Recreational Tails and Greenways Program Coordinator. The Seasonal Resource Assistant will be involved with all aspects of state-wide Connecticut Trails and Greenways Programs, supporting office administrative support, field work, and participating in council and partner organization coordination efforts. Additionally, you will help develop and create presentations, create social media postings for trail programs, evaluate use patterns on trail systems, and attendance at parks, take photographs, and assist with special projects, as needed.
POSITION HIGHLIGHTS
- Enhance and promote the use of statewide recreational trail systems;
- Coordinate and engage with a wide range of partner organizations and agencies including the Connecticut Greenways Council;
- Support the Statewide Connecticut Recreational Trail Grant Program with administrative grant management;
- Evaluate the level of park and trail access and use using counter technology and data analysis.
*Needed February through August/September 2026. 35-40 hours per week, weekends as necessary, not exceeding 1,030 hours total.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience conducting field work and recording data and information;
- Computer skills with experience writing reports, summarizing findings;
- Able to drive long distances and/or hike several miles in a day's work;
- Willingness to work in variable weather and field conditions;
- Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, Adobe Acrobat and other office programs;
- Experience with GPS systems, ArcGIS and AGOL systems.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Incumbents in this class who are assigned as supervisors of small recreational units will perform emergency first aid as needed and will be required to obtain and retain a Basic First Aid Certificate.
- Incumbents in this class may be required for certain positions to meet any of the following:
- Proof of possession of a valid Motor Vehicle Operator license.
- Possession of a valid license to apply pesticides.
- College training in a specific field.
- Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification may be required by specific state facilities.
- Incumbents performing lifeguard services must have and retain an American Red Cross (ARC) Lifeguarding Certification (includes CPR for the Professional Rescuer and Basic First Aid). An EMT or MRT certification may be substituted for the CPR and First Aid requirements.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Incumbents in this class must possess and maintain adequate physical strength and stamina to perform the duties of the class.
- Incumbents performing lifeguard services must be able to demonstrate American Red Cross (ARC) waterfront lifeguarding swimming skills.
