Secretary of the State Stephanie Thomas is committed to promoting the importance of both civic education and civic engagement across the state.  Recognizing that knowledge is power, she is focused on teaching Connecticut residents how to navigate government and advocate for their own interests, as well as breaking down barriers that might prevent people from engaging with their government.  Secretary Thomas sees the Secretary of the State's office as not only a place where residents can go for information and tools to use, but also the office to actually go out into communities to bring the information and tools to the residents for them to use.

We are recruiting for an Executive Assistant 1 position to serve in the role of Outreach and Engagement Manager.  This position will be responsible for designing, building and managing volunteer and intern programs to help execute the voter outreach and engagement work for the Office of the Secretary of the State.  Under the direction of the Director of Outreach and Engagement, the incumbent will assist in the creation and building of outreach events.  The individual in this role will also provide administrative and strategic support in the scheduling of key engagement opportunities for the Deputy Secretary of the State.

PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)

Acts as an executive assistant to a state elective officer or department head as defined in Section 4-5 of the Connecticut General Statutes and performs such duties as are assigned.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

  • Design, build and manage volunteer and internship programs;
  • Screen and interview potential volunteers and interns;
  • Create and oversee a project workplan for interns and volunteers;
  • Reach out to colleges and universities to promote internship program;
  • Research and identify potential outreach and engagement event locations;
  • Manage scheduling for Deputy Secretary;
  • Provide administrative support to Deputy Secretary and Director of Outreach and Engagement.
