Introduction



The State of Connecticut’s Technical Education & Career System (CTECS) has an opening for an Associate Education Consultant. This position will provide leadership, technical assistance, and consultative services for the improvement of teaching and learning at CTECS; designs, develops, implements and evaluates programs and services in the areas of Manufacturing including Precision Machining Technology, Automated Manufacturing, Mechanical Design & Engineering Technology, Mechatronics, and Welding & Metal Fabrication at seventeen technical high schools and one technical education center. This position will reside in Hartford, but occasional travel will be required. We are looking for an energetic and highly motivated individual who is passionate about their work, and detail oriented.

This is a full-time 1st shift position, with the work schedule as 8:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. We offer competitive benefits including health and dental insurance, a retirement plan, group life insurance, and other supplemental benefits. Selection Plan

Must Hold an Occupational Subject Certification, Connecticut Technical High School (Endorsement 090); and Department Head Certification (Endorsement 110) in one of the following CTE manufacturing cluster programs: Precision Machining, Mechanical Design & Engineering, Mechatronics, Welding & Metal Fabrication.

    PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)

    In the Departments of Aging and Disability Services and Education assists in planning and executing programs of extensive difficulty and scope for the improvement of education in the State.

    EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

    • Responsible for curriculum development and implementation.
    • Responsible for alignment of curriculum to state standards, industry standards, assessments and curricular frameworks on an ongoing basis.
    • Conducts and directs steering committees and data teams for trade technologies.
    • Designs, conducts and evaluates professional development activities for school staff.
    • Provides programmatic support to school administrators, teachers and support staff.
    • Coordinates the screening, interviewing, selection and placement of trade technology teachers.
    • Prepares budget requests for program implementation and monitors budgetary expenditures.
    • Reviews, selects, recommends and orders instructional resources.
    • Reviews and recommends changes to trade equipment and Standard Equipment Lists.
    • Reviews standardized trade assessments, orders supplies and assists in test administration.
    • Reviews production work and school renovations.
    • Assist in the design, planning, ordering and completion of the school renovation projects in all the manufacturing cluster programs.
    • Provides ongoing programmatic reviews and evaluations.
    • Provides support to new teachers.
    • Professional developer providing professional development to CTHS staff in the area of differentiated instruction and data driven decision making.
    • Participates in CTE Advisory Committees and is a liaison between the school district and business and industry.
    • Conducts periodic Trade Reauthorization and assists in the development of new programs.
    • Work with industry, state and national organizations to keep technical programs current.
    • Works cooperatively with other central office consultants.
    • Generates reports, summaries and memoranda.
    • Assists in grant development and application process.
    • Stays current in areas including curriculum, pedagogy, assessment, technology, industry needs etc.
    • Performs any other duties as assigned by the Assistant Superintendent and/or Superintendent.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY

    Considerable knowledge of the philosophy and methods of education with particular reference to the field concerned; teaching skill; ability to prepare reports; ability to deal effectively with others.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE

    An earned advanced degree and five (5) years of professional experience OR in lieu thereof an equivalent combination of experience and training approved by the Board of Education.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    • Experience with manufacturing cluster programs.
    • Experience in technology industries and current and projected occupational requirements.
    • Experience with teaching and educational principles, methods and techniques.
    • Experience with technology program curriculum development and student assessment.
    • Experience working collaboratively with business and industry and higher education.
    • Experience assisting others with the interpretation and application of policy to resolve situations as they arise.
    • Experience communicating to both internal and external stakeholders both in person and virtually.

    SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

    Incumbents in this class in certain positions may be required to possess an appropriate certificate issued by State Board of Education.
