The Role:
The Connecticut State Department of Education (CSDE) is currently recruiting for an Education Support Technician (EST) for the Child Nutr
ition Programs (CNP) unit. The Education Support Technician is essential to the CSDE operating programs that meet regulatory requirements, supporting access to USDA nutrition programs, and maintaining program integrity. This individual will assist in coordinating data, information, and reporting as an integral function of administering the Federal United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Child Nutrition Programs including the National School Lunch and Breakfast Programs, Community Eligibility Provision (CEP), Foods Distribution Program, Afterschool Snack Program, Child and Adult Care Food Program and the Summer Food Service Programs.  
This position is located at the State of Connecticut Office Building at 450 Columbus Boulevard, Hartford, CT. This is a 35-hour position that operates Monday - Friday.

PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)

In the Department of Education this class is accountable for technical and statistical work connected with the operations of the department.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Performs a variety of increasingly difficult statistical and technical education related tasks within a bureau or division of the Department of Education; performs related duties as required.
This includes: processing claims for meal reimbursements; providing professional and technical assistance to school authorities; producing required federal reports; coordinating CEP data and validation; assisting with Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests; supporting management evaluations and other audits; securing complete documentation for grants, contracts, and administrative reviews; assisting with data management and inventory controls for USDA Foods Programs; contributing to and assisting with external and internal CNP data requests and reports; and, working with professional organizations, students and various community groups and individuals on projects as needed.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY

Knowledge of principles and practices of public administration; knowledge of organization and operation of public schools; knowledge of general office procedures; some knowledge of statistical methods and procedures; interpersonal skills; oral and written communication skills; ability to analyze and evaluate applications and similar material.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE

Five (5) years of experience in technical work in an area of education.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SUBSTITUTIONS ALLOWED

College training may be substituted for the General Experience on the basis of fifteen (15) semester hours equalling one-half (1/2) year of experience to a maximum of four (4) years for a Bachelor's degree.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preference will be given to applicants with the following experience and training:

  • 5 years of experience in processing data sets for multiple programs;
  • 5 years of experience with data management software;
  • 2 years of experience interpreting, analyzing, and verifying financial data and information;
  • 2 years of experience with government program administration;
  • Experience with federal Child Nutrition Program administration. 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Incumbents in this class may be required to travel.
