Introduction

The State of Connecticut Department of Developmental Services (DDS) - North Region's Public Division - has one (1) current Full-Time job opportunity for a Developmental Services Program Supervisor 1 position based out of the Hartford Regional Center, Newington, CT.

This a 35-hour per week position with a schedule of Monday - Friday - 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. However, must be flexible in order to meet the needs of the agency, individuals, and their families.  Applicants must meet the Minimum Qualifications as listed on the job opening and must specify their qualifications on their application.

PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)

In the Department of Developmental Services this class is accountable for assisting in the supervision and implementation of programs designed for individuals with intellectual disabilities.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Provides oversight to several homes in an Intermediate Care Facility based at the Hartford Regional Center. Assists in development and implementation of policies, programs, scheduling and operating procedures; directs, coordinates, evaluates and monitors performance of residential program units including monitoring staff implementation of individual client teaching strategies; confers with SDSW and staff on routine operational, disciplinary and special problems; evaluates performance of individuals and employees in cooperation with assigned staff; conducts inservice training on intellectual disability practices and procedures and care of individuals; arranges individual search parties and coordinates emergency responses; reviews reports of subordinates and prepares periodic operational reports; makes rounds to insure units are clean and safe; may attend planning and support team and administrative meetings; may work with parent and community groups; may counsel individuals or employees on problems; may interview candidates for position openings; may be assigned responsibility for orderly operation of facility on a shift; may notify other departments of deficiencies and assist in implementing plans of correction within units; performs related duties as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY

Considerable knowledge of intellectual disability procedures and terminology; considerable knowledge of modern methods of dealing with individuals with intellectual disabilities; considerable knowledge of rehabilitative and interdisciplinary process; considerable interpersonal skills; ability to administer activities of a unit; ability to analyze and resolve day to day problems of individuals with intellectual disabilities; supervisory ability.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE

Four (4) years of experience in the care and supervision of individuals with intellectual disabilities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SPECIAL EXPERIENCE

One (1) year of the General Experience must have been in a supervisory capacity at the level of a Supervising Developmental Services Worker 1 or 2.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SUBSTITUTIONS ALLOWED

College training, preferably in an educational, nursing or social science field, may be substituted for the General Experience on the basis of two (2) years of college education equalling one (1) year of experience to a maximum of two (2) years.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preference will be give to those with:

  • Considerable knowledge of developmental and intellectual disabilities, procedures and terminology.
  • Considerable knowledge of modern methods of working with individuals with ID/DD.
  • Considerable knowledge of rehabilitative and interdisciplinary process.
  • Ability to administer activities of multiple residential settings.
  • Ability to analyze and resolve day to day problems of persons with ID/DD.
  • Supervisory ability.
  • Considerable knowledge of rehabilitative and interdisciplinary process.
  • Able to demonstrate knowledge of policies and procedures related to payroll, purchasing, data collection and scheduling.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office programs including Word and Excel.
  • Ability to demonstrate organizational and interpersonal skills in response to interview questions.
  • Considerable interpersonal skills.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

1. Incumbents in this class may be required to be bilingual or fluent in American Sign Language.
2. Incumbents in this class may be required to travel.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Incumbents in this class will be required to possess physical and emotional health for efficient performance of duties; a physical examination may be required.
