The State of Connecticut Department of Transportation (DOT) Bureau of Highway Operations, invites its qualified employees to apply for the position of Transportation Maintenance Crew Leader (Highway Maintenance). The position is located in the Norwich (East Great Plains) Maintenance Facility. The hours are Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m., 37.50 hours per week.
Incumbents in this class must be willing to accept assignment to emergency duties, including snow and ice removal, whenever his or her services are needed; mandatory winter overtime from November 1 through April 30. Various storm events will require employees to stay at work for the duration of the storm; which at times could be up to a period of several days, to include holidays and weekends.
Applicants invited to interview will be required to supply a copy of their Connecticut Driver's License (CDL) Class A or B, with Tank endorsement, valid Medical Examiner's Card (MEC), and copies of their last two service ratings. Candidates who are unable to produce the required documents at the time of interview will be immediately disqualified.
In order to be considered for this job opening, you must be a current State of CT employee of the Department of Transportation, who has permanent State status* and meet the Minimum Qualifications as listed on the job opening. You must specify your qualifications on your application.
For employees in the classified service, permanent status is obtained after successful completion of a working test period. For employees in the unclassified service, permanent status is obtained after serving in a position for at least six months (full-time equivalent).

Knowledge of materials, equipment and approved methods of surface treatment, surface and shoulder betterments, concrete work, guide rail construction, drainage construction and maintenance; knowledge of approved methods of filling joints, patching, snow removal and sanding ice, and erosion control; ability to make minor bridge repairs; interpersonal skills; oral and written communication skills; ability to utilize computer software; some supervisory ability.
Two (2) years of skilled experience in the maintenance and repair of highways.
