The State of Connecticut Department of Transportation (DOT) invites qualified candidates to apply for the position of Transportation Maintainer 4 (Certified Welder) in the Hartford Bridge Maintenance facility. In order to be eligible to apply, applicants must possess a valid State Welding Certification, hold a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) (A or B), with the "tank endorsement" and valid Medical Examiner's Card (MEC), and have some of the "Preferred Qualifications" with their experience in welding. Candidates must possess valid State Welding Certification (3G and 4G Unlimited) in order to apply. This is a 37.5 hour position located at the Hartford Bridge Maintenance Facility, 49 Jennings Road, Hartford. The hours are Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Additionally, incumbents in this class must be willing to accept assignment to emergency duties, including snow and ice removal, whenever his or her services are needed; to include mandatory winter overtime from November 1 through April 30. Various storm events will require employees to stay at work for the duration of the storm; which at times could be up to period of several days, to include holidays and weekends. Incumbents in this class will be required to have a 30-mile residency from the posted job location.
Applicants invited to interview will be required to produce proof of welding certification, a copy of their current valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class A or B, reflecting the "tank endorsement," and valid Medical Examiner's Card (MEC) at time of interview, or they will be immediately disqualified. Candidates will be required to bring a copy of their Master Application and a thoroughly completed Connecticut Department of Transportation Commercial Driver Supplement (CTDOT-CDL-1), and their last two performance appraisals.

The incumbent will be required to perform various structural steel repairs to bridge structures on our 1,032+ bridges within District One; to include fabrication, needle scaling, torch cutting, grinder, replacement of structural steel bolts, and bridge bearing repairs and replacements. The incumbent will also be required to perform minor concrete and carpentry duties as needed. Must be able to read and interpret plans.
