The State of Connecticut, Connecticut Airport Authority (CAA), has a promotional opportunity for current employees who meet the experience and training requirments for a full-time Airport Maintenance General Supervisor position located at Bradley International Airport.  The work schedule for this 37.5 hour per week position is Monday-Friday from 7:00 am - 3:00 pm, with a half-hour unpaid meal break. 

This position works with CAA management to supervise and coordinate several airport work crews in daily activities and during emergency situations such as snow and ice removal.  Emergency situations may require overtime.   

An individual serving in this position must be able to successfully undergo a thorough background and security screening, physical examination including pre-employment drug screening, fingerprinting and maintain required security clearance during the duration of employment.  Incumbents in this class must obtain Bradley movement area certification, allowing them to independently operate vehicles and equipment on Airfield movement areas while effectively communicating with Air Traffic Control for proper clearance.  Movement area certification must be maintained during the duration of employment.  A valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is required and must be maintained for the duration of employment.  May be exposed to extreme weather.

At the Connecticut Airport Authority, this class is accountable for supervising airport maintenance employees in the maintenance and betterment of all airport facilities and property.


Schedules, assigns, oversees and reviews the work of staff; provides staff training and assistance; conducts performance evaluations; determines priorities and plans crew work; establishes and maintains crew procedures; develops or makes recommendations on the development of policies and standards; coordinates the work of the crew on maintenance, special maintenance and capital outlay work in accordance with FAA and TSA rules and regulations; allocates personnel and equipment, determines and reports on materials required; coordinates all airfield maintenance operations with airport flight operations; arranges through the Airport Authority Manager for the furnishing of, or the release of rented equipment; during winter storms advises, directs and coordinates work as directed by the airport operations staff; arranges for shifting of equipment where there are breakdowns; arranges for required repairs to equipment; acts as liaison with other operating units, agencies and outside officials regarding unit policies and procedures; prepares reports and correspondence; performs related duties as required.


Considerable knowledge of relevant agency policies and procedures; considerable knowledge of relevant State and Federal laws, statutes and regulations; considerable knowledge of approved methods of maintaining and improving runways, roads and related drainage structures including snow and ice control and removal; knowledge of materials and equipment used in airfield and road maintenance and construction; basic knowledge of first aid; considerable interpersonal skills; considerable oral and written communications skills; ability to lay out, supervise and inspect airfield maintenance work; ability to utilize computer software; supervisory ability.


Six (6) years of experience in airport maintenance.


Three (3) years of the General Experience must have been in a supervisory or lead capacity.


For State Employees, this is interpreted at the level of Airport Maintenance Crew Leader or a combination of experience as an Airport Maintenance Crew Leader and Transportation Maintainer 3.


Incumbents in this class may be required by the appointing authority to possess and retain appropriate current licenses, permits and/or certifications.

1. Incumbents in this class must have adequate physical strength, stamina, physical agility and visual and auditory acuity, and must maintain such physical fitness as to be able to perform the duties.

2. A physical examination may be required.


Incumbents in this class may be exposed to extremes of weather conditions, to lifting of heavy weights, to highly dangerous road and traffic conditions, to exposure to heights when working on bridges, to poison ivy, insect bites and allergy irritants during summer months, and to loud and potentially dangerous machinery.
