PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)

In the Department of Aging and Disability Services, Board of Education and Services for the Blind, this class is accountable for negotiating and procuring contracts, developing new products or services, and presenting information regarding agency programs.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

Works under the limited supervision of the Business Enterprises Program Manager or other employee of higher grade.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED

May lead/supervise lower level employees as assigned.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Plans, promotes and develops business opportunities for agency clients and customers; surveys locations both for needed services and potential business; establishes a marketing network and makes initial contacts with buyers, businesses and economic and community-based organizations; negotiates product sales and services contracts and maintains liaison with customers to ensure quality of service; develops and designs new products and/or services including making samples, preparing patterns and prototypes, developing pamphlets and other publications, working up pricing for materials, labor, shipping, overhead and/or services rendered; develops, designs and distributes sales and promotional materials including flyers, brochures and newsletters; develops and implements marketing strategies to promote products and services provided by agency; speaks to business, community groups and other service organizations; assists in fund raising activities; coordinates volunteers or other staff to assist in sales or marketing at exhibits, fairs and special events; oversees quality control of program to ensure compliance with product specifications and standards; may provide training to other agency personnel on marketed products and services; may make formal presentations at local, state or national level; may interact with educational groups in presenting and marketing informational products and services; performs related duties as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY

Considerable knowledge of current marketing principles and practices; considerable knowledge of retail and wholesale principles and practices including product development and promotion; knowledge of business operation including purchasing, bidding, contract preparation and/or review and bookkeeping; knowledge of objectives of agency services and programs; knowledge of principles of customer service; considerable interpersonal skills, considerable oral and written communication skills.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE

Seven (7) years of experience in marketing, sales, industrial engineering and/or new product development.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SUBSTITUTIONS ALLOWED

College training in business management, marketing or other related area may be substituted for the General Experience on the basis of fifteen (15) semester hours equalling one-half (1/2) year of experience to a maximum of four (4) years for a Bachelor's degree.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

1. Incumbents in this class may be required to work erratic work weeks including weekends and evenings.
2. Incumbents in this class may be required to travel.
