PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)

In the Department of Consumer Protection this class is accountable for supervising a group of employees assigned to betting windows at the Teletrack while maintaining the integrity of cash flow.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

Receives general direction from an employee of higher grade.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED

Supervises Cashiers on a betting line at the Teletrack facility.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

  • Provides direct supervision of the activities of a betting line at the Teletrack; 
  • Assigns Cashiers to betting line at beginning of each shift; 
  • Verifies and disburses initial cash allotment to each Cashier; 
  • Relieves Cashiers of excess funds while maintaining cash flow records; 
  • Assists Cashiers in responding to questions from the public and answers the more difficult questions regarding racing terminology; 
  • Responds to customer problems; 
  • Handles unique betting opportunities unfamiliar to Cashiers; 
  • Checks for counterfeit money; 
  • Prepares I.R.S. forms for bettors with applicable winnings; 
  • Verifies cancellable tickets, making cash notations and preparing appropriate forms; 
  • Performs closing activities at end of shift including counting money and tickets of each Cashier, comparing results with computer printout, researches discrepancies for explanation and completes appropriate forms and records; 
  • Evaluates Cashiers' performance and prepares annual service ratings; 
  • Maintains employee attendance records; 
  • Provides on the job training for Cashiers; 
  • May act as betting steward responsible for closing all betting machines prior to beginning of each race; 
  • Performs related duties as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY

  • Considerable knowledge of
    • relevant agency policies and procedures; 
    • relevant state and federal laws, statutes and regulations; 
  • Knowledge of pari-mutuel gambling; 
  • Considerable
    • interpersonal skills; 
    • oral and written communication skills; 
  • Ability to
    • count and record large sums of money; 
    • utilize computer software;
  • Supervisory ability.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE

One (1) year of experience as a Connecticut Careers Trainee (target class Teletrack Line Supervisor).

WORKING CONDITIONS

Incumbents in this class may be exposed to some risk of injury from assaultive or abusive patrons.
