PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)

In the Department of Revenue Services, Collections and Enforcement Division this class is accountable for assisting in the supervision of Revenue Agents and clerical staff engaged in collection of outstanding and overdue accounts receivable.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

Receives general direction from a Tax Collection Supervisor.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED

Assists in supervising a staff of office or field investigators and clerical employees.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

  • Coordinates the flow of work of the unit; 
  • Determines priorities; 
  • Assists in the distribution of work to revenue agents; 
  • Reviews the work of collections staff for accuracy, completeness and production; 
  • Assists in reviewing accounts to be referred to hearing officer or serving officer by revenue agents; 
  • Assists in the formulation and enforcement of new revenue policies and procedures; 
  • Assists agents in resolving problems regarding difficult cases and personally controls collections of a highly difficult nature; 
  • Prepares and issues tax warrants and tax liens as necessary; 
  • Performs related duties as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY

    • the operations of electronic tax administration systems; 
    • effective office practices and procedures;

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE

Seven (7) years of experience in investigatory work involving the collection of delinquent accounts in a regulatory enforcement agency, financial institution, credit bureau, industrial or government security agency.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SPECIAL EXPERIENCE

One (1) year of the General Experience must have been at the level of a Revenue Agent 2.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SUBSTITUTIONS ALLOWED

College training may be substituted for the General Experience on the basis of fifteen (15) semester hours equalling one-half (1/2) year of experience to a maximum of four (4) years for a Bachelor's degree.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Incumbents in this class may be required to travel.
  • Incumbents in this class may be required to possess and retain a valid Motor Vehicle Operator’s license.
