In state facilities this class is accountable for performing professional services as part of an organized first year training program in a state hospital approved for a residency training program by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education and Hospitals of the American Medical Association or affiliated with a medical school accredited for this purpose.
Works under the close supervision of a psychiatrist.
May lead direct care staff.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Receives training in examination, diagnosis and treatment of psychiatric patients/clients;
Performs psychiatric interviews and physical examinations on patients/clients admitted to unit;
Collaborates with treatment team in development of treatment plans;
Conducts psychotherapy under supervision;
Maintains progress notes on patients/clients;
Attends residency training classes and case conferences;
Assumes on-call duties as required;
May appear in court at probable cause hearings;
Performs related duties as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY
Knowledge of principles and practices of medicine and surgery;
oral and written communication skills.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE
Graduation with an MD degree from a medical school approved by the Connecticut Medical Examining Board with the consent of the Department of Public Health.
Incumbents in this class must be eligible to obtain a license to practice medicine and surgery in Connecticut.
Incumbents in this class may be required to travel.
This class is established to permit agencies to recruit and train employees in psychiatric skills. An employee may be appointed to this class for a period not to exceed one (1) year within a specific agency.
