In the Department of Developmental Services this class is accountable for directing a comprehensive
program to receive complaints affecting individuals receiving or eligible to receive supports and
services from the department and to make recommendations to the Commissioner for resolving those
issues or concerns.
The Ombudsperson shall be an elector of the state with expertise and experience in the fields of
developmental services and advocacy for the rights of individuals under the care and supervision of
the Department of Developmental Services.
Appointed by the Governor with the approval of the General Assembly for a term of four (4) years, not
including any time served as acting ombudsperson, in accordance with the provisions of Connecticut
General Statutes Section 17a-210a (b) and (c).
As defined by Sec. 5-196 of the Connecticut General Statutes, a job class is a position or group of positions that share general characteristics and are categorized under a single title for administrative purposes. As such, a job class is not meant to be all inclusive of every task and/or responsibility.
