PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)

This class is accountable for independently performing a full range of hairdressing and cosmetic services for clients/patients.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

Works under the general supervision of an employee of higher grade.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED

May lead lower level employees as assigned.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Performs a variety of hairdressing duties including but not limited to the following: 
  • Cutting hair; 
  • Applying scalp treatments, coloring, permanent waving, finger waving and permanent cream relaxing; 
  • Shampooing and blow drying hair; 
  • Removing superfluous hair; 
  • Applying make-up; 
  • Sharpening, adjusting and sterilizing clippers, scissors and other equipment; 
  • Cleans work area; 
  • May requisition and maintain stock of hairdressing supplies; 
  • Performs related duties as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY

  • Knowledge of and ability to apply hairdressing and cosmetology principles and techniques; 
  • Skills

    • oral and written communication skills.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE

Possession of a current license as a Hairdresser issued by the Department of Public Health.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Incumbents may be exposed to communicable diseases and to risk of injury from clients/patients.
